Relief is also required for pet care, health equipment replacements, specialized technology for special needs, health care for smoke related issues.. We know the long road of emergency relief and do hope #Californians gain support.
We already had a community advised fund in place, one that supported our charitable purposes of emergency community relief and we were able to support a Fire campaign. We do recognize that it is easy to forget how much is required in #fire relief - housing, clothing, furniture are obvious but
Early on, there were powerful debates on where fundraising should occur. #GoFundMe plays are role, offers fast fundraising and can raise a lot of funds. But corporate donations, or donations from people who do not know the GoFundMe organizer can be barriers to fundraising.
In 2024, we supported a community group, via community advised fund, extend relief after an apartment building was gutted by fire impacting many families. A few notes.. first emergency relief in terms of hotel stays is limited - days not weeks. So forms of relief need to allow for housing.
As we find our voice on bluesky, we are reminded of the power of community as we watch groups come together for emergency response in the #LAfires #Californiafires.
Very timely. This is a subject of debate among charities - so its nice to have some legal perspectives.
Huge gratitude for our neighbors, Mexico and Canada have sent fire fighters and army to help us.
ABC, NBC & CBS dedicated about 16 minutes of airtime last night to the California wildfires without once mentioning climate change.
