My first post here π
π©βπ¬π§ Can a few drops of water reveal hidden rice-field pests?
Our new bioRxiv preprint shows how low-cost eDNA can help farmers track native & invasive species efficientlyβno long surveys needed.

The Croucher Foundation, who graciously funded our eDNA workshop, were kind to interview and report on the ongoing research in our lab. It's been a busy start the past couple of years and we are very excited to share more of our results soon. croucher.org.hk/en/news/moni...
Baian presenting his PhD chapter on the taxonomy of the Nibea genus. A key Croaker group with unresolved species placements, which Baian has been enthusiastic to resolve.
Thomas presenting his initial findings from our night purse seine fishery survey study, in collaboration with the AFCD. Eight months with 167 unique species.

Our new study shows how eDNA can track fine scale marine biodiversity loss under human impacts. Using a large scale mesocosm experiment we monitored temporal dynamics in bio-accumulation, response to stressors and eDNA degradation #eDNA #MarineBiodiversity onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
End of the year lab hot pot. Fantastic group to work and share a meal with. #eDNA #fisheries #macroinvertebrates #biomonitoring
New study highlights the importance of clean coastal waters for sustainable shellfish farming! Predictive models can help manage E. coli, reducing economic losses from shell fishery closures. Real-time data is key! #MarineScience #Sustainability

Very excited to have Aden from @ednacollab.bsky.social visit our lab and chat about all things #eDNA.
My favorite phrases to hear from my wife, generally in this order, "Aiya!" "What are you doing?!?" "Stop being crazy!"
Finishing off this seasonβs #freshwater #macroinvertebrate #eDNA campaign in Tai Lam. Now back to the lab for the rest of the dry season to work through the samples.
This is very cool
3rd Generation #eDNA here we go. Many thanks to our inter-departmental HKU collaborators. #nanopore
Treking through the Northeast end of the New Territories. Few random dog encounters mixed with some nice natural streams. Just shy of our site goal for the season. #eDNA #macroinvertebrates
It's time consuming, but you can make smaller size request (e.g. order, family) and merge them all afterwards.
Yes, they have been mostly ignored in Hong Kong. We've mostly found species that also occur regionally, with ~5-7 entirely new species.
Our initial Hong Kong #Chironomidae survey is done. Elaine is busy making sure we get the traps down before Christmas. Over 200 new additions to the species checklist so far from the sample sorting. #biodiversity
Finished a busy week sampling around the Tai Tam reservoir system. Hong Kong does not have any natural lakes, but the reservoirs help keep a good part of Hong Kong somewhat rugged.
You can have a look at Gert-janβs CRABS pipeline for downloading data bases and assigning taxonomy . Works well once you get over the technical hump. The overall pipeline works for self adapting as well. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Busy day getting the next sets of NGS libraries ready for sequencing for Lukeβs and Gingerβs respective projects. #eDNA #biomonitoring #robotics
Off and about Mui Wo today. Slight panic attack when Dr. Han Wu repacked the pump so I βwouldnβt be carrying too much.β Another productive day with a great group and great weather. #freshwater #eDNA #macroinvertebrates
Year two, season one, of our Hong Kong freshwater macroinvertebrate & eDNA bio-assessment. Six streams across Lamma island today.
Large scale study sheds light on complex arthropod global biodiversity dynamics, emphasizing the role of regional factors in shaping beta-diversity patterns. Additional Insights into species replacement and richness differences for understanding global metacommunity dynamics.

Great list Nicolas - could you add me as well?
Hey everyone. Here is my first attempt at an environmental DNA (eDNA) starter pack. Sorry if there is another one going around. If you would like to be added, let me know and I'll eventually figure out how.
