No matter how often I see videos like this, I will never get used to this practice of cycling on the outside of cars in traffic. It's wild. Doing so is illegal here (except in narrowly defined circumstances)
Again this stuff about licenses and registration - why do the British keep banging on about this? In contrast to the claims made here, no-one in places where cycling is in fact mainstream would propose this. It's just silly.
The change really is amazing. Visited last spring, and too time to ride Lime bikes a couple of times. Such a joy. And the bikes are absolutely everywhere.
This is grotesque. The only reason this happens is that the driver is not slowing down, not looking, and not caring. Nothing here is hard.
Bike lanes are flexible! Just in this video: bicycles, Lime rental (e)bikes, a food delivery bike, and a very nice parcel delivery cargo bike. The Dalek fits right in.

I've noticed they're in the process of bringing that particular bike lane up to - well, not 2026, but at least the 21st century. It helps, even if we clearly want more. What is really important is that it's not a one-off - it's part of a finely meshed network.

Ouch. It's not like it's super hard or expensive to do better. When my youngest was 11-12, he used to ride quite often along this road to visit a friend. No, it's not super - it's old, outdated, in need of upgrade - but the curb makes a huge difference, as do the width of the lane.

I have walked and walked and walked in Rome - it's a lovely place for it. Cycling, not so much. Like with many European cities, it's been a scary prospect until just a few years ago. Paris, Lisbon and others are showing that change is possible. It could be fun to try cycling Rome.
