I love them both pretty equally tbh. In my heart I think I like 1989 more but the more I think about it, Returns just is a better movie overall. I think looking at it from a perspective of the superhero slop we get now puts Returns in a better perspective, like we'll NEVER get a movie like it again.

it's INSANE how good True Stories is. I only first watched it for the first time in 2018 thinking it'd be a quirky fun Talking Heads movie and I just had this immediate epiphany like "This might be my favorite movie I've ever seen" that I don't get very often. It's so beautiful and profound.

also on a related note Sanvein is totally worth getting you can still find brand new US copies for like $5 and the game's not amazing but sure is at least worth that much!

I liked the game and was a fan of Tail Concerto at the time but I quite literally only bought it because it was in really nice shape and cost exactly the same as any other copy at the time. When Solatorobo came out it made me appreciate having something signed by Matsuyama a lot more lol

Actually speaking of Silent Bomber and .hack// I bought my copy on eBay back around 2008 or so for like $20 and it happens to be signed by Hiroshi Matsuyama and Daisuke Uchiyama (who did not work on the game lol). The original owner was at E3 when they were promoting .hack// and got them to sign it

The sites were annoying me so I literally just made a 3000x4500 image in MS Paint and pasted everything together with most posters grabbed from Letterboxd lol

Yeah the ending is like the one tidbit I've always been aware of lol. I remember the demo being cool but aesthetically it's never grabbed me like Tail Concerto, Solatorobo, Silent Bomber, .hack// etc did.

Oh god yeah and the startup animation for Kite's magic is so ridiculously long it basically makes his healing spells worthless and you're just better off using healing items instead since they're frame 0.

The reason we're wearing gloves in the 2nd panel is in our pretend play, we believed touching Pokemon would hurt us. the logic was that Ash wore gloves in the show & we thought it protected him against Pikachu's electric nature (which it obvs didn't, but we were stupid children)

I mean to be fair, despite being $50 1/4 portions of a single game, they DID all come with a 30+ minute OVA at a time when most anime DVDs with that amount of content were $30 on their own, so the price isn't all that bad in the grand scheme of things. I got em all used years later anyway so lol

.hack//'s really one of those things where, like many CC2 games sadly, it kind of gets by on its vibes and charm, which it has a lot of. I just wish they're able to finally make the game they envision without any compromises with this new one.

Messing around with .hack//IMOQ to refresh my memory and man oh man I forgot just how ridiculous the brick walling this game does to you to pad out the playtime. Every major story dungeon you basically have to do a random dungeon on your own because you're severely underleveled.
