"But now ANYONE can do that job" no they can't. You have to know how to do it correctly to make sure the LLM did it correctly. You have to know how to do it correctly to identify and make the corrections. You still need an expert. They just want to pay their expert less.
I used to be a copywriter. My dad said "well now your job just moves to editing and prompting articles instead." And I'm like ... that's more work for the same product. The old way is I write the thing correctly. The new way is I prompt the article, read it, and correct it. That is MORE time.
Staff at the nationβs largest Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility have placed bets on which detainee will be the next to die by suicide, according to new reporting from the Associated Press based on 911 calls and detainee accounts.
All these thoughts brought to you by my fifth fucking coat of paint on a piece because I keep missing little details in getting a smooth, even finish on it and having to sand it back and try again.
But a nicely painted piece is a beautiful thing. It's got a smooth, lovely finish, it has depth, it feels deliberate and luxurious. It's really hard to do, and I'm starting to easily be able to identify which people doing this work are doing it properly.
It's so interesting the more you get into learning a new skill and you start to have this deeper understanding of the various choices made by the creators you've been watching.
"Flippers" don't give a shit about quality finishes. Refinishers do but they get the same amount of stick for painting.
I've seen some pieces in the thrift shops at this point that have clearly had the minimal possible effort, which is like: quick sand to create enough texture on the surface for paint to adhere, spray it, wait maybe an hour, spray it again (no sanding), and call it a day.
Looks like shit though.
If you start early in the day you MIGHT get through those 3 rounds of paint in one day, but it takes 4 or so hours for each coat to dry sufficiently to be able to sand it and knock back the texture. So at best you start at 8 am setting up a paint tend and take the tent down at 5 pm.
In my furniture refinishing journey I am learning that if people think painting a piece is the "easy" option, they must be doing a piss-poor job of painting.
You spray one coat. Empty your paint sprayer and rinse it while that coat dries. Sand that coat gently. Another coat. Repeat 3-4x.
Anderson Cooper: βSo it's more expensive to have a chronically homeless person living on the streets than it is to actually subsidize an apartment for them?β
Answer: βYes, weβre paying more as taxpayers to walk past that person on the street and do nothing.β #HousingFirst #UrbanTruth

They've now killed four people -- three U.S. citizens and a Mexican national. They've shot several more.
They've lied about all of them. They haven't shaded the truth. They haven't "misled" us. They've brazenly, knowingly lied while in possession of the evidence disproving their lies.
Stephan Geering on Bluesky says Challenge for those who are very confident that Claude isn't conscious: Explain how human consciousness works.
I'm not giving this guy engagement but it's so wild to me that anyone follows this train of thought:
1. No one understands how this thing works
2. I made one though and I am confident it is the same as the original thing I don't understand, even though I don't understand it
3. I should do it again
Challenge for people who believe Claude *is* conscious and use it anyway: Explain how youβre not a slaver.
why does this look extra space-y on that swing, it's like he's on some kind of flying saucer
These people are talking about shooting black market drugs into their arms like it's a cool new trend they don't want to miss out on.
But dude there is no version of this story that ends with "And I'm so glad I took those drugs I learned about on Discord, it worked out great and had no downsides!"
If your story starts with "I had just been prescribed a new medication" - that story could go different ways. It could go "and it really helped so I went back to school." It could go "and there were bad side effects."
But "I ordered black market peptides" really only has one kind of ending.
I used to teach my guy friends this principle to figure out whether they were asking a girl on a date that would feel safe to her or not.
A story that starts with "So this guy I had just started seeing wanted us to go on a hike" has everyone in the room ready for a bad ending, you know?
I watched a video about the rise of peptides and I need some people to learn to apply the "how does this story end?" principle.
20 years in the future, when you start a story by saying "it was 2026 and I'd just started ordering black market peptides from China ... " - does that story end WELL?
Yeah it's probably that Biden was old. Just Biden. Only Biden. Biden is the only old one but my gosh it really got to us, his oldness. So much so that even though there is no other elderly person in government, we're still obsessed with how old Biden - and ONLY Biden - is.
deceitful!
omg what's it about???
It does terrible fucking things to your mind if you stop getting feedback like "dude what the fuck are you talking about?"
Just look at how literally any billionaire speaks.
I love that they had to add "are friends" to "The Fox and the Hound" because, like. The Fox and the Hound IS the titling convention of The Great Mouse Detective but we have to pretend it isn't.
I'm not saying it can't crash, won't crash. Just saying that even though it looks very scary if you are checking against last week, it is not actually that scary right now.
Absolutely begging people to stop saying "hallucinated" like the fucking AI can dream shit up. The AI isn't sitting cross-legged on a cushion out of its mind on opium and speaking in tongues. It's a fucking computer that generated words that don't exist.
Putting up my usual reminder that a one-day dip in the stock market is not a crash. The total stock index is not even below where it was a year ago and Trump was President then too.
Stock markets DO crash but it has not done that today, you're going to be okay.

brianmcginnisnc Brian McGinnis' wife has NOT been allowed to see him in the hospital. He is currently awaiting surgery for severe injuries. Legal counsel has also been denied access. A Marine veteran. A firefighter. A father of four. And his family still cannot see him.
so apparently Brian McGinnis has been denied access to both his family and legal representation since a sitting senator broke his arm
