Conclusions: This study confirms the importance of the foreskin for penile sensitivity, overall sexual satisfaction, and penile functioning. Furthermore, this study shows that a higher percentage of circumcised men experience discomfort or pain and unusual sensations as compared with the uncircumcised population. Before circumcision without medical indication, adult men, and parents considering circumcision of their sons, should be informed of the importance of the foreskin in male sexuality.
If this was true why was he so unclear about his position on the foreskin?
Boys, even in the U.S. do die of circumcisions, it doesn’t take a lot of blood loss to cause death or organ damage. Plus even when they don’t some of the circumcisions do more damage than usual leaving a lifetime of problems, all for an unnecessary and unwanted surgery that other countries don’t do
It’s sad that in the U.S. so many baby boys will then experience the loss of circumcision so quickly though and never experience their genitals as they were meant to work. Circumcision harms autonomy, sensation, function and aesthetics, is well past time to drop the unnecessary surgery
Comic with mom and child: Mom, what’s HYPOCRISY? Saying "my body, my choice" and then defending infant circumcision
I support a women’s right to choose, but also think boys should have the right to choose for their own body
In addition to the trauma of bodily autonomy loss, there is the loss of sensitive nerves, gliding function/sensation and protection that keeps the glans sensitive.
True, but in no state are men safe from the unnecessary and damaging genital surgery of circumcision. No state protects us from that horrific act.
The foreskin has sensitive nerves, adds a gliding function/sensation and keeps the glans sensitive. We lose all of that so the hospital can profit.
@who.int sexual health is important, consent is important. Bodily autonomy is important.
The WHO should advocate against male and female child circumcision. Everybody deserves the right to their own genitals
And they haven’t updated their statement to account for the recent studies done in Canada and Denmark on the long term health histories of hundreds of thousands of men, that both showed that circumcision gives no benefit to HIV/STD protection.
This article should have been much bigger news, it really showed cultural and legal concerns were taking precedence over health. They also tried to shift the blame to the parents by saying it was a permission slip to them, when it was much more explicitly to the hospitals to do it and charge for it.
Being the only country that routinely circumcises for profit doesn’t help maintain respect. Foreskin has sensitive nerves, gliding function/sensation, keeps glans sensitive.

Boys can’t even be born without the medical hard-sell on a surgery none of them would consent to: circumcision. Outside of religion other countries don’t do this damage without medical need, the foreskin is a very beneficial and healthy body part providing a gliding sheath and sensation benefits
the AAP should place science ahead of cultural beliefs and update its policy to be AGAINST circumcision
U.S. is one of the very few countries in the world where infant circumcision is done without need. foreskin has sensitive nerves, adds a gliding function/sensation and keeps the glans sensitive.

Some in the AAP did recently admit to being wrong about circumcision.
For the record the rest of the world doesn’t do this outside of religion, and foreskin has beneficial aspects

For the record: the drugs are reducing aids, not circumcision
Study of 600,000 Canadians, found that circumcision gave no protection: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34551593/
Circumcision classed as possible child abuse in draft CPS document

And it should be considered child abuse to damage a child’s genitals.

We conclude that non-therapeutic circumcision performed on otherwise healthy infants or children has little or no high-quality medical evidence to support its overall benefit. Moreover, it is associated with rare but avoidable harm and even occasional deaths.

Maybe the @ameracadpeds.bsky.social should take its own advice here and join the rest of the world in recommending AGAINST circumcision
It violates all medical ethics and pretends there is no harm, it removes sensitive bits, desensitizes glans and destroys the gliding skin functionality/sensation
@who.int So does this mean you will start to advocate AGAINST male genital cutting?
The foreskin has sensitive nerves, adds a gliding function/sensation and keeps the glans sensitive. No kid should lose those benefits.
Agree, especially with bodily autonomy
No boy should ever have a circumcision done to him without absolute necessity
The foreskin has sensitive nerves, adds a gliding function/sensation and keeps the glans sensitive. Kids shouldn’t have that destroyed for life
It works, recommend, turns out it was there for many good reasons
As a form of obedience to the religion combined with anti-masturbation and anti sexual pleasure beliefs
Yes, we need to society to take a step back and look at circumcision for what it really is. Genital mutilation justified by the most trivial and often greatly exaggerated excuses
It was there initially for good reasons
Some religious traditions need to end, especially for permanent and unnecessary bodily harm
You don’t have running water and showers?
It’s very much a real thing, and worth doing
Anybody from an atheist background? Nope
if their goal was to stop doing unnecessary and damaging genital surgeries on minors, they should start with the non-consensual one that actually happens; circumcision The rest of the world doesn’t do this.
