My bet is they don’t actually believe this crap, it’s just something they say for hype purposes because it makes for a clickbaity headline. Still, “maybe we’ve enslaved a conscious mind which is suffering” is a pretty weird flex.

"that meeting could've been an email" okay let's stop pretending you hate emails less than you hate meetings. which email provider is paying you to say that
yeah i didn't really know her but his daughter was in the same class as my brother. i'm pretty sure she had a band in high school that recorded a song called "our love is in purgatory and so is billy mays"
everyone's responding with their celebrity stories so i guess mine is for a while i knew the password to dee snider's phone
no i did not get the chance to use it
listen if you ever end up in a situation in real life where you didn't do anything wrong, but if you did it was someone else's fault, you should make up a different story so you don't have to say that
i mean i would not be having a great time but i think the $50 million would help me get over that
off the top of my head fewer armed cops/security just hanging around in public spaces, or fewer ads (i don't know which countries have fewer ads but i would notice that right away)
tiktok (i think) has influenced language such that i've heard a few people casually & earnestly refer to songs as "sounds"
five years ago you could've had a tv character talk like that in order to establish they're a space alien in a poor human disguise
i feel this way every time someone says "comfortability" instead of "comfort"
i think that's where i'm stuck here. do the rents on individual units actually go down? i thought the idea was just that the domino effect goes further (those 50 vacant units get new tenants, whose one previous homes are vacant, etc) & ultimately includes housing which was already cheaper
yeah i think it's a slightly confusing word choice. like the output is a rental market w/ lower average rents, so i think it's technically correct. but i read "decreases rents" & imagine the prices of individual units going down
the beautiful thing about Neighbors on HBO is that it's a documentary that seems to have specifically chosen its subjects based on who is most likely to sue them
for maximum wrongness they should've taken this year's numbers & then went back adjusted them for inflation from her freshman year to the present
if you look up the tuition where i went to undergrad the numbers that come up are all more than double what i was billed, & i knew loads of people paying less than me there. i regularly heard people use those prices we weren't paying to claim everyone at my school was a spoiled rich kid
other pet peeve of mine: when people state the list price of a college as though that is definitely what an individual student paid for it
who even knows if they bothered to look up the years she attended, that's probably this year's rate
going to be thinking about this often, i suspect, as i get into actually editing all my writing from last year. i get the feeling i'm going to cringe at a lot of meaningless gestures
if it counts, i took my 2nd road test 2 weeks after the 1st (as soon as i could book it after failing) w/ the same proctor. she recognized me, said, "no, you'll get someone else," & then looked around & realized they had all driven off. there was no one else
tbh this is sketchy but feels like not the worst way to learn? i never really felt like i was learning to drive until i had actual destinations
i don't really know if that's true. we'll never know the counterfactuals for sure. joe "mickey mouse could beat trump" biden certainly didn't seem to have that attitude. he ran, he got elected, he failed to meet the moment. here we are
yeah i agree, he was probably the 2nd or 3rd worst candidate in that extremely crowded 2020 primary & i hate that he's the guy we ended up with
oh yeah ideally in 2022 he would've declined to run for reelection & let a real primary happen, yeah. & ideally in 2020, pretty much anyone else would've won that primary. but in 2024 post-debate i think resignation would've been better than dropping out
this is why i believe biden should have fully resigned as president instead of just dropping out of the race. i have no idea if the outcome would've been different but she would've at least had the chance to set herself apart
let he who has not thrown a stone from a glass house cast the first stone
i can imagine a yoounger version of myself walking out on the first act of Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die when its satire feels extremely shallow so i'm glad i stuck around for it to turn out to be much more interesting than that
if you work for a well-regarded university or other big cultural institution do you have a moral obligation to search for your colleagues in the epstein files
yeah i was definitely imagining the entirely fake shoe version so thank you for clarifying. fake shoe version would be more embarrassing as a thing to not catch but the fake numbers could be a more insidious problem
when you say hallucinated a better selling shoe do you mean
hallucinated that another real shoe sold better, when it actually didn't sell as well, or
made up an entirely new shoe that didn't exist at all & claimed that sold better
i would say i'm similar, most students who fail my classes either missed major assignments, didn't show up, cheated, etc. i've had students pass my classes w/ flying colors & admit they were retaking after failing, & i certainly want that for the students who fail my classes
and best of luck to you!
like there are plenty of students who have failed my class, lots who i wouldn't write a rec for, a few who i had to report for academic dishonesty, some who i felt very negative about bc of how they treated others. but i just hope they get better y'know, what i saw isn't all of who they are
