Think of it as a utility/monopoly. When Bell first rolled out they had to drag wires everywhere and we all got phone service, even if it was a “party” line. Cable was mostly the same. Deregulation ended monopoly responsibility. Cable companies want $70k for the last mile to my house. Nope.
Build it to solve a problem YOU have. That’s how I look at it.
