I’m appealing my tenure denial.
I’m appealing my tenure denial.
It is standard for Western academia to support imperialist aggression.

What is happening now is only the labour pains of something great that will be born from the rubble of defeat like a volcano born from under the cold ashes of a forsaken mountain.

Decolonial Thought Plus In this hellscape of living we are instructed not to name the killers, not to mention the killing, and not to look too closely at the manufacturing of death. Instead, we are disciplined into hygiene-language scrubbed sterile, sounding 'academic enough, standing safely, at the centre of the abyss. It then gets stamped, approved by the editors of silence, before it's sold back to us as decolonial thought plus. Khawla in Grief
There’s nothing like looking at the list of those who got tenure and realizing that your publication record is stronger than most of them yet you’re the one who was denied tenure. So much for the meritocracy administrators love to defend.
This looks great compa! I’ll check it out in more detail soon.

This.
Academia will not save us, so we better start creating autonomous spaces to think, organize, and fight against these fascist and genocidal institutions that will dispose of us once we step out of line.
I’ll never regret speaking out against genocide. These institutions on the other hand are complicit and active participants.
Academic freedom is not an abstract concept
solidarity with Jairo and all colleagues who use their voice to challenge colonial logics and legacies in the very universities that we work and teach in. Jairo's case reminds us that job offers and tenure decisions are not objective assessments but political decisions.
Academia in the West is a racist institution that seeks to protect colonialism via oppression.
The denial of tenure was never about scholarship. It was a retaliatory move from @texastechlib.bsky.social to send a chilling message: dissent that threatens institutional power will be punished. Shame on Ron Hendrick, Brendon Creighton, Lawrence Schovanec turned tenure into a political tool!
Come along on Friday and show solidarity with Palestine, with decolonial and global south scholars whose work comes from their lives, and with @insurgentthought.bsky.social whose work with @anadiazbetran is a model for us all 👇🏽❤️🔥
I received over 90% of the votes at the department and college levels, yet the provost denied me tenure. I met and exceeded the promotion and tenure guidelines and expectations as well as my annual and mid-tenure reviews.
Truly sorry! Absolutely dispiriting.
With relentless attacks on academic freedom @ttu.edu has positioned itself to perpetuate harm against scholars whose use their academic freedom to provide dissent against the ongoing genocide in Gaza. This denial targeted one of the brightest minds in the Curriculum and Instruction department.
Tenure has never been a measure of merit, it is a carceral logic used to discipline and control.
Sending lots of solidarity your way.
Less than two years ago, Texas Tech University suspended me for speaking out against genocide. Today I found out I was denied tenure.
I was denied tenure.
I was denied tenure.

Discourse about to get annoying now that we know the Border Patrol agents who murdered Alex Pretti have Latine names, huh.
With great reluctance, let me say the following for those who are shocked by or want to make something out of this fact:
1/
1. It is common wisdom in the southern borderlands that Latine BP agents are some of the most racist and abusive in practice.
You get stopped by one of them, and you are almost certainly in for a bad time. 2/
Chile’s President-Elect, Jose Antonio Kast, not only had close ties to the Pinochet dictatorship that tortured & disappeared thousands of people, but his father was also a Nazi officer. Expectedly, many liberals & conservatives have congratulated Kast for defeating “communism.”
Here’s Trump’s official pardon of Juan Orlando Hernandez, the former Honduran president responsible for shipping hundreds of tons of cocaine to the US.
The scariest part of AI isn’t that it will dominate humans but that humans will use it to discredit all evidence that proves horrifying things are happening. Real audio recordings, images, and videos become AI & AI becomes real. Reality is thus denied. AI is counterinsurgency.
