The book, the cover of which shows a group of 4 children, with their leader wielding a sword, in front of an archway containing a tall green man made of plants and 2 small magical people flying on large blackbirds.

Magic is neither good nor bad, it amplifies the dreams you feed it. Since the dawn of time, gargoyles have gathered around sources of magic to protect us from the worst things people dream up. Most gargoyles choose a human Guardian to work alongside them. Under some duress, Zariel chose Callen.

Gosh, I hadn't clocked that you're dyslexic - I'll tell my daughter. It's incredibly reassuring to see grown-ups who've faced the same struggles but are now thriving. Made by dyslexia was ace for that - she did a school project looking at the impact of their campaign

Sing it from the rooftops:
📢 Proper funding for school libraries!
The graphic novels in our state school library were treasured artifacts, handled with reverence. I think there was even a rule about only reading them in the library rather than taking them out. They were read and re-read.

Parents and educators - there are a lot of discussions in publishing about how to improve reading for pleasure. Is there anything you wish publishing would do more of? Or just understand about kids and reading? Any insights from teaching/parenting of what gets kids reading? #KidLitUK #Edusky #KidLit

My daughter is dyslexic. She worried that people at school would see her reading MG in her teens and judge her. Graphic novels were a total lifeline. Text with images for context is so much easier for her and they're not embarrassing to be seen with in secondary school. If only there were more...

One of my kids was (still is) a book addict. Our local indie bookshop was a brilliant place to discover new authors / series. Having bought the first one, we'd get the rest through the library. Children's booksellers are so good at 'if you like that, try this'

Happily, my cat is an expert writer's cat - if I'm writing, she's sleeping. It's a good way to stay put and keep working. It's called being inca-puss-itated

I love the amount of quirky humour hidden on the rooftops of some very venerable buildings. I found all sorts of gargoyles when I was doing research - from aliens to dancing foxes and everything in between

I'd love to say yes, but if I'm really honest, the final trilogy bears only a passing resemblance to the original synopsis in that it's got gargoyles in it 😳😬
Happily, my lovely publisher agreed that all the changes I suggested were actually improvements to the story 😅
