It’s because men’s games attract larger audiences, meaning bigger sponsorship deals and premium broadcast rights. But with women’s football set to become one of the world’s top five sports by 2030, we’re on a trajectory towards change.

It’s a long-overdue recognition of players' contributions. But let’s be honest: the gap is still massive. The men’s EURO 2024 prize pot was €328 million, more than eight times larger. Male players reportedly received €426,000 each.

England’s victorious Lionesses take home the biggest prize in EURO women’s history: a record-breaking €41 million. That’s more than double the last tournament in 2022 and over five times what was available in 2017. Each England player will take home around £87,000 (approximately €102,000).

Women’s football is on fire: the EURO 2025 final was the most-watched event on UK TV this year, the competition generated the biggest-ever sponsorship income for a tournament organised by UEFA… AND it’s helping to close the money gap between the men’s and women’s game.
