This βitβs impractical to avoid AIβ stance is frustrating to me because no it isnβt? At least for authors who have direct control over their work. Not a single GenAI tool touched my books at any part of the creation process. I know this for a fact because I know my software and what my editor uses.
Unpopular opinion: Using AI for book covers, illustration and promotion isn't stealing. It doesnβt copy one artistβit mixes patterns to make something new. Indie authors who must utilize it for financial ressons aren't theives, theyβre resourceful. Original visions still = original. Fun fact: The creativity? 100% theirs. The ethics? Totally fine if itβs not a direct copy. Let's not bash Indie authors. J.K Rowling was on welfare and depressed when she wrote HP. Let's be more compassionate.οΏΌ

Hold on, gimme a sec. I wrote it. I'm the author. I know all about it... I just need like five minutes to calibrate my brain and process how to properly reply when someone asks about my writing.
I guarantee that if I just completely lost my soul & started cranking out AI books, my career would be over. if you put in the work to make something good and born from your own mind, the people who become your readers/fans WANT THAT. They donβt want generic robot slop. Using AI is authorial death.
My best recent anecdoteβwe were asked to give a more βstory tellingβ design presentation at work this holiday. The other team used chatgpt to write theirs, advised me to do the same.
My team took time to write something we were all happy with & nailed it. The other teamβs was a total crash and burn
always baffles me when I see βbut writers/creatives/etc. HAVE to use AI to remain competitive!β
besides AI writing being worse, thereβs no evidence it gives any real advantage over not using it. youβd still have to fix all its screw ups, which takes time you could use to do it right the first time.
