I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.

Sorry for being weirdly introspective this morning. Iβve just been thinking about a lot of stuff lately, especially with how scary my heart issue is plus how different my life is from what i imagined when I was younger. And, I just needed to get my thoughts out there I guess.
I have to focus on the difference I can make (fostering cats, donating time and money to my community, knowledge sharing, and just being kind) because doing something is better than doing nothing. And thereβs always room to grow and improve.
Yes, there are still parts of my life that suck (increasingly disabled, still in wv, and *waves hands at the general state of the world*) and Iβm not where i thought I would be by 27. But, i have to focus on the good, otherwise i wont be able to get up in the morning and do what i can to help others
I have much more creative freedom now because I support myself with my full time job, so I can make whatever and Iβm fine even if it doesnβt sell. Which is really, really, nice and a very privileged place to be in esp as a person with multiple chronic illnesses. Iβm like, insanely lucky to be here.
I guess im still technically an employed artist as a graphic designer, but itβs something Iβm not very passionate about, so I am able to separate my self worth from it and be much more objective about what Iβm creating. Does that make any sense π
Some people are able to make their art a full time job and thatβs really inspirational. Sadly, Iβm not one of them because a) my health is horrible and I need a good insurance plan b) my self worth was tied to my illustrations/ art in an unhealthy way and c) you have to be able to work 24/7 non stop
I also hated painting in college, but now one of my favorite things I get to do is paint pet portraits LMAO π yay for growth? I guess?
Iβd really like to get back into conventions, but I donβt know if I can do them by myself anymore with all of my health stuff. I also would need to start outsourcing production of more merch, which is expensive af and also a huge financial commitment π¬
Also itβs so much easier on my body oh my God. Like my body is still Falling Apart, but at a much slow rate than it was when I was constantly doing conventions and crocheting 100+ plushies a month. Also! Health insurance!!!!!!!!
It is objectively really funny I went to school for illustration, loathed graphic design with a passion, and now like a decade later Iβm a full time corporate graphic designer and love it.
Itβs not really βfulfillingβ but itβs stable and my relationship with my art is a lot healthier now.
Culture came back negative! Yay!
Also! Dandy is fine and looks great:) they are testing him for another uti, but they think itβs just his regular pee pee man flare up! So yay!
