Matt Walsh @MattWalshBlog Remember when they spent years telling us to panic over the hole in the ozone layer and then suddenly just stopped talking about it and nobody ever mentioned the ozone layer Derek Thompson @DKThomp What happened is scientists discovered chlorofluorocarbons were bad for the ozone, countries believed them, the Montreal Protocol was signed, and CFC use fell by 99.7%, leading to the stabilization of the ozone layer, perhaps the greatest example of global cooperation in history.
🤦🏾👇😆
“Absolutely shocking!” Said no teacher ever.
Snow. The impendingness is just as bad as the actuality.
I am really over the snow right now. After 4 weeks, almost all of the snow in my backyard is finally gone. So let’s add another 12 inches or so. 😞❄️
love when there's an article about how life is sustainable in the superheated waters surrounding a hydrothermal volcanic fissure on the ocean floor and then like six paragraphs in you find out the author's parents are chemosynthetic bacteria 🙄
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling deeming the orange felon’s trade war tariffs as illegal, Illinois Democratic Governor JB Pritzker is demanding the return of over $8B that was stolen from families in his state by said tariffs.
All Democratic Governors should do the same.
New York's Department of Environmental Conservation issued air quality advisories for the metro region on Tuesday and Wednesday. And air sensors across New York City detected an increase in tiny pollution particles early this week, peaking Wednesday evening.
When Trump tells the CNN journalist that they're "fake news" at his conference after the Supreme Court ruling on tariffs, why don't they shout back that he's a fake president. What have they got to lose?
I definitely think that when aliens fly past Earth, they lock the doors on the spaceship and fly away quickly. Why would they take a chance to interact with us?
We need to be kinder to humans, the animals, and the Earth.
It really is that simple.
In a little more than a month, I’m off on another student tour. This one starts in northern Italy, and goes through Monaco and the south of France, and finishes in Barcelona. All of these will be new for me! Very excited!
Presently cooking an amazing paella mixto for my Valentine. 💘 Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
Today was the last teaching day before February Break. Not traveling this time, so I’m glad to have a quiet week at home.
If you are going to Italy and bringing your own food, you what’s wrong with you?
What would 6 year old me think about 50+ me being so happy to watch The Muppet Show tonight? I think she’d be SO happy for me.
Me - an enthusiastic traveler in a pink hooded sweatshirt — in front of the Elizabeth Tower, home to Big Ben, in London. July, 2023.
Just booked a trip to London for the week after Christmas. It’s group travel, with enough free time for me to see a few key places, like Covent Garden and Westminster Abbey. I’m thrilled! I love London so much!
My first remarks since being arrested last night.
I just typed up a quick little pre-quiz for the new Astro class. Off the top of my head - What galaxy are we in? What color is Mars? Grammarly tells me that 41% of my document has “possible AI text.” But I typed this with my own 2 hands! From my own brain! What the heck?
Photo of a TV screen, featuring meteorologist Jim Cantore of The Weather Channel. He is out in the snow, with Central Park in the background. It is well known that if Jim Cantore comes to your town, the weather is going to be BAD.
Well, NYC, we’re cooked. Jim Cantore is covering the storm from Columbus Circle.
Review with the Bio kids after school. Thermoregulation. Me: “It’s cold today — Hey, do you kids still say ‘Brick’?” Kids: Yaaas! Me: Ok, so it’s mad brick today. K: YAAAS, Miss! Me: Did you shiver? K: Yaaas! Me: Are you warmer? K: Yaaas! Me: There you go - Thermoregulation.
He doesn’t mind sharing his birthday with an amazing person like Dolly Parton. 😊
Chocolate cupcakes with a lighter colored chocolate frosting, swirled on the top of each one. Still in the cupcake pan, on a glass shelf in the refrigerator.
Double Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Ermine Frosting. Hubby’s birthday is tomorrow - we’re ready to celebrate!
Haters gotta hate.
Watching the return of Crew 11 from the ISS. Good luck to everyone involved! Get home safe! NASA.gov
DD has always been my favorite band. I’m glad to see that they did this.
I love this! Great work by your students!
Thank you!
A graphic diagram showing the difference between diffusion and active transport. On the left, a stick figure is at the top of a hill, and a ball rolls down the hill (shown by an arrow). On the right, a stick figure is at the bottom of a hill, kicking a ball to the top. The top of each hill is labeled “High Concentration” and the bottom of each hill is labeled “Low Concentration.” A label on the Diffusion side says “ No Energy is Used.” A label on the Active Transport side says. “Energy Must Be Used.”
I made this graphic, but I can’t truly take credit for it. It is directly copied from something my Bio teacher drew on the board in the fall of 1987. I’ve used something like this in all my Bio classes since 1995. Now it’s digital!
