This is a step towards accountability. DHS & ICE violated the Constitution when they gassed Portlanders in their homes.
The court found that DHS was likely _deliberately indifferent_ to the harms to the plaintiffs βbased on the quantity of chemical munitions used, the distance from the Portland ICE Facility to impact areas, the fact that chemical munitions are being used contrary to [] agency use of force manualsβ¦β
A federal judge has ordered the Dept of Homeland Security to *immediately stop* using chemical munitions in ways that affect residents of neighboring Grayβs Landing, an affordable apartment building 100 feet from the Portland ICE facility. This is fantastic news. democracyforward.org/news/press-r...
Some people like living in tall buildings and thatβs OK
I thought this was an onion headline, but no
Turns out lawlessness is not a winning strategy. See you at Nuremberg 2.0
Paying agency heads to leave canβt help this situation, either
I havenβt seen any collected responses of orgs but I anecdotally know of a third party evaluation effort ongoing rn, looking at the first round of awards and their impact. That might be out as soon as next week- Iβll share here if I see it!
Yep, hi! I sent around some info on Seattleβs flexible βurgent operating support,β which included debt restructuring, for a variety of uses that kept affordable housing safe/stable/tenants housed etc. Could be a good model to explore for preservation & stability housing.seattle.gov/uos-rfq/

PEPFAR, the program to stop hundreds of thousands of children and adults from dying of HIV/AIDS, was $6.5 billion a year.
If the government gets to decide if you have them, they're not human rights.
They killed 180 children and their teachers in a double-tap strike on a school. The girls were 7 to 12 years old.
Millennial optimism, baby!
A lot of people say AI isn't very good for the world and its outputs are routinely unreliable, but these haters fail to see how it's revolutionizing how we incinerate schoolchildren.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has abandoned efforts to build a detention center in Newport, at least for now, according to court filings first reported by the Statesman Journal.

Trump likes to close the curtains so the Declaration canβt witness the especially unconstitutional stuff
Bad things on my mind this week:
-another war in the Middle East
-βjust one more lane will fix the trafficβ
-studded tires
-giving public dollars to billionaires, no strings attached
-paying taxes outside of tax payment systems
-no enforcement for license plate-less cars on our roads

A photo of the facade of the Portland ICE facility, taken from S Moody St looking SW at the facilityβs driveway & front entrance. The overhang above the front door has the typical light fixtures but also what looks like a faux Christmas tree sitting there alone, with fake snow on it.
Does anyone know or have a guess as to why ICE put a Christmas tree looking thing on top of their flat roof? Itβs a new addition to the facility this weekβ¦ curious if this is allowed under city code or could be dangerous to folks passing byβ¦

JD VANCE: "There's just no way Trump is gonna about this country to get into a multiyear conflict with no end in sight"
TRUMP HOURS LATER: "Wars can be fought 'forever,' and very successfully"
Because she was working with a federal task force, she was considered a federal officer, and thus protected by SCOTUS rulings making it all but impossible to sue federal cops, even for egregious abuse.
Now consider what this means for Trump's immigration thugs.
Democrats had two years to fix this.
8 if you count the invasion of L.A, Portland, Minneapolis -- not bombing in the traditional sense, of course. But nothing is traditional at the moment.
