Poor beautiful Lebanon dragged into this nighmare
Poor beautiful Lebanon dragged into this nighmare
Scripture is intended to be a provocation to conversion; this means
we let it in, instead of fighting it off;
think about it, instead of making it fit what we already think;
relate to it as a different way of seeing that finds its clarity and culmination in the way Christ sees.
As I write, a man on TV is rallying the USA to hate & fear.
But we don't need hate & fear.
We need love.
We need Jesus.
We need people like my brother in Christ, Alex Pretti, who lived in service and sacrificed his life to protect the vulnerable.
Be like Alex.

"“He said, ‘Mom, they’re kidnapping kids. Why would anybody do that? Why would people treat each other like that?’”
Alex Pretti's parents rip the White House's "sickening lies" about him and recall how his care for others showed when he was in Catholic grade school.

Nearly one thousand healthcare workers turned out to honor Alex Pretti yesterday at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center (see link in comments). Healthcare workers know self-sacrificing goodness when they see it. Pretti was raised Catholic, as I describe here: edeninexile.substack.com/p/alex-prett...
I made the Kindle edition of my book on healing sexual wounds with the help of the saints available for free through Sunday. Currently it's No. 1 on Amazon's list of free Kindle books on saints. Get it for $0 while you can: amzn.to/3ZRFsho .
Alex Pretti's teacher from his Catholic middle school: "He’s the kid who would offer to help somebody re-explain a lesson to a student who didn’t understand something... . He’s the kind of kid who would see me carrying something heavy, and he’d offer to help carry it." www.wpr.org/news/green-b...
Alex Pretti was a cradle Catholic who laid down his life for his friend. He was my brother in Christ. He didn't deserve to die.
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

READING Jeremiah 22:3 Do what is right and just. Rescue the victim from the hand of his oppressor. Do not wrong or oppress the resident alien, the orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood.

A Catholic priest who worked as a chaplain alongside Alex Pretti for ten years remembers his fallen colleague's kindness: "Don’t, please, pay any attention to the vilification from our national leaders."

Little Rock’s Bishop Taylor who lost 20 first cousins in the Holocaust writes: “Polarization and partisanship are poisoning the social fabric of our country. In this, there are many obvious parallels with the 1930s, and that should give us pause.” arkansas-catholic.org/2026/01/26/p...
This is Alex Pretti, my fellow Catholic, my brother in Christ, at the Veterans Affairs hospital where he was an intensive-care nurse, commending a deceased soldier to the Lord.
May God have mercy on us all.

Alex Jeffrey Pretti, martyred while aiding a woman victim of violence, pray for us.
Alex Jeffrey Pretti, the nurse whom feds gunned down after he attempted to aid a woman they had shoved to the ground, was raised Catholic. His parents sent him to a Catholic grade school, where he did Catholic Scouting & was awarded the Light of Christ medal.

What happened today in Minneapolis did not happen in Putin's Russia.
It did not happen in Hitler's Germany.
It happened in Donald Trump's America.
Lord have mercy on us all.

Take a good look at the cartoonishly darkened and distorted, Trump Administration-manipulated image of Nekima Levy Armstrong. The murder of truth, the attempted murder of human dignity, will not stop with her.

In the #GospelOfToday, Jesus gives us a powerful message: it is not by flaunting our merits that we are saved, nor by hiding our mistakes, but by presenting ourselves honestly, just as we are, before God, ourselves and others, asking for forgiveness and entrusting ourselves to the Lord’s grace.
Pope today: “With the abuse of vulnerable migrants, we are witnessing not the legitimate exercise of national sovereignty but grave crimes committed and tolerated by the state. Ever more inhuman measures are being adopted, even celebrated politically, that treat these 'undesirables' like garbage.”
Pope Leo at Canonization Mass: “The Lord listens to us, embraces us as we are, and transforms us. Those who reject God’s mercy, however, remain incapable of mercy towards their neighbor. Those who do not welcome peace as a gift will not know how to give peace.” www.vatican.va/content/leo-...
