Frustrating software experience:

I use a paid version of a tiny indie software utility. It just auto-updated to a new version that is a _paid upgrade_ and knocked me back into a trial version.

Support indie software and all, and I'm not going to name and shame, but hey: Don't do that.

the incentives here are so obscenely terrible that the entire thing should be illegal by default

β€œI am sabotaging negotiations because I stand to make piles of money on Polymarket” is absolutely in play, what a horrifying clusterfuck

The cool thing is that the US seeking regime change in the middle east is something that has worked out every time with no blowback or unintended consequences ever.

Is it #FossilFriday yet again? Fine. Meet the glass sponges. With a fossil record going back to the Ediacaran, bizarre multinucleate cells strung across a latticework of razor-sharp siliceous spicules, and the current record for longevity among the metazoa, hexactinellids be WEIRD. πŸ§ͺβš’οΈπŸ§΅

One of the first things we were taught at Quantico was that there is never a moment in which you are not representing the Bureau; but, then again, we earned our place there, and weren’t granted its directorship as a sinecure for partisan malfeasance and a willingness to disregard the constitution.

People talk about this stuff in terms of how much it'll suck for gaming and I hate to inform you how many MRI machines, X-Rays, all sorts of other vital machinery are just a Windows IoT Edition PC in a beige plastic box with a big magnet/accelerator/whatever attached.

Perhaps dangerously, I've discovered there's an audience for grapolites on here. Thus: graptolite structural models made by E. S. Parkington and by (or inspired by) W. J. Sollas. The perfect dinner party centrepiece. In the @lapworthmuseum.bsky.social collections #FossilFriday
