Also KOF games tend to have a mechanic that requires pressing the top and bottom buttons at once when using default mapping, which sucks to do with diamond layout.

This isn't a problem with the gamecube controller or a fight stick, and i know people who prefer to play on a pad instead of a stick. Also while guilty gear has a macro bind for roman cancel you can map, it's not as easy with older arcade games.

Actually, the diamond shape can be annoying for fighting games! If you have a game where actions require pressing multiple buttons at once, like roman cancel in guilty gear or some supers in old fatal fury, it's harder to press the three buttons on a usual controller.
