A letter to the editor in the Spokane, WA Spokesman-Review:

Baumgartner's personal travel
It was impressive that Congressman Michael Baumgartner chose to travel to a European security conference at his own expense. I hope that after this fall's elec-tion, he will get many more opportunities to travel at his own expense.

5-star Dystopian Novel to a Political Reality.
Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2026

This book was a super depressing and a difficult read for me, because this book is much more than a dystopian novel. It is a prophecy, a horror story and in the modern world it is becoming an almost inevitable reality.

Raspail obviously got his inspiration from the liberal self hating white attitudes of the time (the 68ers of the hippie era) which have only grown more extreme in the last 50 years, albeit with some small respites of sanity and normality from time to time. In the 70's as a small child I can't recall white self hatred. My family and classmates were a proud people, but it was always there on the radical fringes and is now clearly visible on the radical left, which is now mainstream.

Raspail's prophecy came true with the 2015 refugee crisis in Europe when over 1 million illegal migrants made landfall in Europe with another million the following year. A smaller number since, but nonetheless, it continues with the inevitable outcome if we don't change course now. And, the Biden Administration practically invited 12-20 million more in America.

This is a must read!

Incredible text, impressive new translation
I'd never read The Camp of the Saints before, though have been on the right for a long time so had heard it referenced repeatedly. I came in somewhat skeptical being a literature snob & knowing the challenges of writing a good political novel.
This exceeded all expectations. much more than a fable about mass immigration, it's about how we've lost confidence in ourselves & been consumed w/ suicidal empathy, restructuring our societies around shame of the past instead of pride in who we are while taking a clear-eyed approach to our historic shortcomings. The thematic depth & breadth of this novel & the author's keen insights will stick with your for life. Aspects of this wouldn't seem believable if one hadn't lived through recent events, esp the summer of 2020. The whole novel is populated with the sorts of characters you've seen your whole lifeโ€”ultra wealthy resentful minorities, clueless do-gooders, haters of the commonplace, nihilistic priests, sniveling politicians, etc. The journey of the migrant fleet is a fable, but the portrayal of the society towards which it travels is distressingly realistic.
This is a text which should be read by everyone, & it's sad to see it historically restricted to a racialist, anti-immigration fringe of the right. It should be noted the book itself is not particularly racist, esp by the standards of an older novel, it is more about culture & discusses how anti-racism & the fear of being seen as racist have paralyzed us as a society.
Vauban Books has done the world an enormous service by bringing this new translation into print for a new generation of English readers. Congrats on their success, I know it was a challenge for a small, young publisher to get the rights & get this out & I imagine they had to beg & borrow as many funds as possible, but currently both the soft & hard cover are sold out on Amazon, so congrats & thanks to the publisher!

The author, a French writer and explorer, wrote one of the earliest works discussing the "Great Replacement". To his supporters, this book is prophetic, as in the half century after its 1973 publication Europe would experience major demographic change.

In the book, approximately one million Indians board 100 boats and set sail for Europe, which they view as the promised land. The Europeans, mostly not expecting the armada to successfully traverse the globe, proclaim their joy at the arriving migrants. This joyful welcome preparation is led by the leftists and the Christians. As the armada comes closer, tensions within Europe sharpen, but ultimately the Europeans are generally unwilling to use violence to repel the migrants. When the migrants land, anarchy breaks out as the great majority of Europeans flee the migrant wave, while a small number of leftists and Christians go to greet the migrants, only to be trampled underfoot or murdered. Eventually, the migrants take over Europe -- largely not through force, but through sheer numerical superiority and the Europeans' refusal to engage in self-defense.
The book is thrilling and action-packed, and there certainly is an element of prophecy within. However, the characters are one-dimensional and the dialogue is stilted, so l've deducted one star.

I bought a Houellebecq SATIRE of the far right's obsession with sharia law, and amazon suggests camp of the saints, the French turner diaries beloved by such luminaries as Tim McVeigh & Steve Bannon.
