My new research found when trying to distinguish real faces from AI-generated ones, people with average face-recognition ability performed at chance, and while super-recognisers performed better than other participants, it was only by a slim margin.

Scientists no Longer Find Twitter Professionally Useful, and have Switched to Bluesky Synopsis. Social media has become widely used by the scientific community for a variety of professional uses, including networking and public outreach. For

Bluesky is the new science Twitter, new study by @whysharksmatter.bsky.social and Julia Wester concludes!

"Results show that for every reported professional benefit that scientists once gained from Twitter, scientists can now gain that benefit more effectively on Bluesky than on Twitter."

I am definitely more than 5 years by the clock, I might be a tick over 5 now with career interruptions, I've lost track.

AI study gives insights into why super-recognisers excel at identifying faces Research uses eye-tracking data to examine some people’s extraordinary recognition ability

πŸ§ πŸ‘€ Dr Rachel Bennetts, our expert in face processing at Brunel psychology, shared her thoughts in @theguardian.com on a fascinating new study exploring what makes some people exceptional at recognising faces πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ

New research out today is written up in The Guardian!
We show that the basis of super-recognisers advantage for face recognition is not just about looking everywhere – it’s about looking smarter, at more useful information for identification.

Our team just secured an ARC Discovery Project funding for "The Psychology of Perceiving Artificial People", where we ask how human cognition adapts to spotting AI-generated people?

Glad to be a part of this all-star team led by Amy Dawel.

Stay tuned for Postdoc opportunities!

Proud to have been part of the small but mighty team behind this year’s EPC/APCV with @sbmost.bsky.social, Branka Spehar & @popwatson.bsky.social.

Pulling off a 400+ person event with just a few academics wasn’t easy, but we managed to do it while keeping that classic EPC warmth and supportiveness.
