Happy Michaelangelo's birthday! He'd be 541 today if he wasn't taken from us too soon. In his honor I've put this t-shirt, and all the others in my shop, on sale today. mattbaume.dashery.com

GLAAD MEDIA AWARD WINNER: OUTSTANDING COMIC BOOK Avengers Academy: Marvel’s Voices By Anthony Oliveira, Elsa Sjunneson, Carola Borelli, Bailie Rosenlund, Pablo Collar, Charles Stewart III, Alti Firmansyah, Minkyu Jung, KJ DΓaz, Ruth Redmond, Dono SΓ‘nchez-Almara, Ariana Maher, Joe Caramagna (Marvel Infinity Comics)

I am so thankful for the gift of this recognition on behalf of myself and all of the crew on Avengers Academy. We strove week after week to make art worthy of our community – to deepen and enrich the world for queer, trans, and HIV+ representation and readership, to insist we belonged in these worlds of fiction and in the world that dreams them. We wanted both to illuminate queer stories told long ago and to trailblaze new paths forward. It was not always easy, but it was always worth it.

I am so proud of this work, and so honoured to have it so celebrated. Thank you.

Thank you to all the impossibly gifted collaborators on this project for all your brilliance, enthusiasm, and generosity: our regular artists Carola Borelli, Bailie Rosenlund, and Pablo Collar; our colorists KJ Diaz and Ruth Redmond; our letterists Ariana Maher and Joe Caramagna; as well as our numerous guest talents – who enriched this book week after week with their gifts and perspectives. Thanks too to our editors, Lindsey Cohick, Sidney Stubbs, Wil Moss, and founding editor and Sarah Brunstad who willed this book into life. Time and again this book redefined what could happen, how it could look and read, and above all who could be in a superhero comic, and I could not be prouder.

And, with great admiration and profoundest appreciation, thank you to my community, for always lifting me up. Finding all of you has been the great gift of my life. This category is full of the fellow artists who showed me there was a place for us to create and to live in this world, and I live in the enduring blessing of their work.

I said it when we ended, and I will say it here again: comics will mend your heart, if you let them. When I was a scared, lonely, closeted kid, the Marvel universe’s heroes were there for me when very little else was. That is a debt I can never pay back, but one I’ve tried with great travail to pay forward. I want to believe we have afforded a little of that same refuge to those who soug…

Amazed and honoured that AVENGERS ACADEMY has won the GLAAD Media Award for OUTSTANDING COMIC BOOK!

This book pushed every boundary in this industry, and I am so grateful for the gift of these talented collaborators and this generous, uplifting community of readers. deadline.com/2026/03/glaa...

I simply do not trust SDOT to respond honestly to community requests for safer crossings. Look at the brushoff they gave me when I asked them to paint a crosswalk as part of a larger project -- a year ago it was "we'll consider it when work is done," today it's "actually we won't consider it at all"

Cannot get over these people who are like "cops are the last guardrail between civilization and anarchy, and also they are so fragile they have to go to the hospital if they are touched by literal snowflakes"

I have a distinct memory of watching the episode with Beverly Sills when I was a kid, and one of the Muppets meets her and goes, "wow, Beverly Sills the opera singer???" and I was like "ah ok yes cool, it is natural that I, as a seven year old, am aware of certain prominent sopranos of the 1970s"

Yeah, why can't UK politicians exhibit the same level of political decorum as their American counterparts, like this guy for example

Looks pretty good, but I do see a conflict zone -- drivers making a right hook across the bike lane at James (marked in yellow). It's such a sharp angle they could easily miss a bike coming up in the bike lane. James should just be made one-way there, with no turns onto it allowed.

Screengrab of an interview:

You were without a doubt the highlight character for me in the 1995 film Showgirls, appearing as Henrietta β€œMama” Bazoom, which also featured past TWS guests like Robert Davi and Rena Riffel. You were absolutely hilarious! So what was it like to work on a project like this? Was it an enjoyable shoot?

Showgirls was my first feature film. MGM, Paul Verhoeven and Joe Esterhas were enough for me to sign on. From the first day on set to the premiere, the journey was an adventure of a lifetime. The Henrietta β€œMama” Bazoom character on paper was a pisser! She was β€œlarge and in charge”, at least at the Cheetah Club. Henrietta’s β€œbazoom’s” were originally scripted to be revealed as a computer generated move, like Jessica Rabbit. When the contract was ready to be signed the deal was β€œau naturel” or nothing. I thought, β€œWell, as Elvis said, β€˜it’s now or never’.”

Somewhere in one of the Planet Hollywoods is a dress of Henrietta’s displayed in infamy!

TWS guest Robert Davi and Rena Riffel were all part of the Cheetah Club clan. Robert gave the grit. Rena was the temptress of titillation. Rena & I had a blast when we were asked to put our handprints at the Vista Theater in LA as an homage to Showgirls!

Elizabeth Berkley was β€œlightning in a bottle”. I love that woman. She was brave beyond imagination. Nomi was the only one who could get Henrietta’s Ta-Ta”s to HA HA !

Showgirls has proven to be timeless.. over 20 yrs later it is regarded as a cult classic and I LOVE THAT !!!
