Greetings from the coastal rainforest of British Columbia! Rainwear exists and allows us to walk and even ride bikes to work, school and shops in the rain! Thousands do it each and every day!

Weβll never see sufficient manual enforcement. The cops lack the manpower and arenβt inclined to spend time on it. Plus, they donβt want to be forced to ticket their own.
@cityofnorthvan.bsky.social with increased gas prices, why force people to be dependent on automobile use and ownership to move around our small city? Start building a complete, protected network which allows people to leave cars at home(or opt out completely) and run errands efficiently and safely.
I suspect merchants could do it themselves without city interference.
Yes, I know that. Iβm just proposing an alternate model for increasing their budget shortfalls that doesnβt involve them constantly reaching into taxpayers pockets.
I donβt know. I think if they want more money they should earn it through the fines collected doing traffic enforcement. If their budget depended on this, I bet weβd see a lot more than the occasional 2-hour blitz!
44 tickets in only two hours. Imagine the impact if they spent more than the occasional 2-hour βblitzβ on traffic enforcement. Well, they donβt have the resources for that, which is why we need automated enforcement. Everywhere. www.northshoredailypost.com/44-ticketed-...
Neighbourhood characters are more important than neighbourhood character!
I think we need a shift in driver behaviour more urgently than a new time zone.
Absolutely. I'm pretty agnostic about it as well. Though, just as my morning commute is coinciding with early daylight, I will probably fuss about it being plunged back into darkness next week.
The city could reduce the speeds along Chesterfield, W23rd, Jones, etc. tomorrow for very little cost if it chose to prioritize safety over driver speed and convenience. There is no rational reason to allow drivers to mix with those outside cars at speeds higher than 30km/h. bsky.app/profile/20sp...
I notice people worried about child safety during dark mornings offer suggestions like bright clothes for kids or changing school hours, but nobody even thinks about the real problem which is drivers. Fearful for kids safety? Control driver behaviour and improve infrastructure to make streets safer.
Those loud voices need to be ignored. Listen to them & we'll never get anywhere. Implementation of bike lanes is glacial. Let's stop catering to the speed & convenience of drivers. The fact that we can't even have speeds reduced on streets w/ sharrows is ridiculous. How is 50km/h safe for cyclists?
Why is it taking so much time? Victoria is investing and building at a level that has left us in the dust. Are we still relying on developers to pay for infrastructure? If so, the city needs to reconsider that because weβll never get anywhere with that model.
So it seems lots of recreational MUPs are progressing, but what about a safe network that allows us to ride safely for utility within our city? I'm getting really tired of the high speed, close passes and other bullying by drivers who can't be bothered to share the roads.
Okay, so this is an award for overall work, not work done in the past year?
@tonyvalente.bsky.social I'm curious what infrastructure improvements were made by the @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social to earn this "Great Leap Forward" award from @wearehub.bsky.social. Has new infrastructure been built in the past year?
Does nobody at REI ride a bike?
So true. The complete lack of any form of enforcement has resulted in a serious deterioration in driver behaviour because they know there will be no consequences. Even the risk of killing someone doesn't curb the behaviour because they know, if they do kill a person, they'll face no consequences.
I think that regularly riding a bike or walking makes us better, more conscientious drivers.
Come to Canada.
When Sidesaddle still operated in Vancouver, they had a saddle library and allowed you try as many as you liked until you found one that worked best. I wonder if there is anything like that in your area?
This. All of this.
βHave a near death experience every time you ride.β People who donβt ride bikes will think this is a joke. It isnβt. Intersections and driveways are a feature of North Vancouver MUPs which have baked in dangers experienced on a daily basis.
We have the same problem here in @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social. Our council is patting themselves on the backs for a bunch of MUPs that are great for recreational riding but have no utility for those who need safe infrastructure to get to work, school and local shops and services.
Making up for some pretty bad planning through the 70βs and 80βs.
No lies detected.
I just hit βshuffleβ and take what gets thrown at me. Sometimes a song pops up that totally changes your mood. This is one of those songs.
I love this song so much.
