In this #EditorsChoice, data from The Lund Lab show that CXCR6 promotes the adaptation of T cells as they engage antigen in tissue to increase the probability of survival, memory differentiation, and long-term residence.

Very nice work, congratulations! I thoroughly enjoyed this story when you presented it here in Erlangen last year. Do you happen to have an author's link for free access to the article which you can share?

Meet three scientists who said no to Epstein The warning signs included a web search, a motherโ€™s doubts, and inklings of a โ€œsexist attitudeโ€

This is a nice contrast to all the awful behavior confirmed through the Epstein files. Proud of @jenlucpiquant.bsky.social & @seanmcarroll.bsky.social for picking up on the sexism & charlatanism right away.

In Olympic terms, long-term immune memory depends less on sprinters โ€” and more on marathon runners.

This work was led by #womeninSTEM power: Sina Frischholz, Ev-Marie Schuster and Myriam Grotz.

This suggests that long-lived T cell memory in humans may depend on an early metabolic โ€œstandby modeโ€. In most immunogenicity studies after vaccination, we still pay little attention to T cells โ€” and almost none to the metabolic activity of T cell subsets. In the future, we may need to do so.

The cells that persist the longest are not the most metabolically active ones. Instead, already early after vaccination, a subset of naive-like memory precursors enters a metabolically quiescent state and relies almost exclusively on oxidative phosphorylation.

We took advantage of the yellow fever vaccine and quantified metabolic activity of antigen-specific CD8 T cells at the subset and single-cell level by measuring protein synthesis rates as a functional readout of metabolic flux โ€” from the acute response up to 26 years after vaccination.
