kid in painted bike lane wearing a backpack Annoying 8 year olds keep wanting to walk and bike to school despite city's best efforts to make it too dangerous, while drivers "have had it" with all the catering to this powerful lobby group of school children.

Donated. Thank you for being such an inspiration!
prioritizing youth mobility is prioritizing adult relaxing When kids can walk/roll safely and independently to school, you can enjoy some peaceful time to yourself. Coffee cup image
A parenting win.
I'm headed to Paris on July 25th, and Amsterdam on Aug 1. If any bike advocate friends here happen to be nearby either of those weekends, I'd love to meet up for drinks.

When Hidalgo steps down next year, she'll have left an inspiring legacy: 350 km of protected bike lanes, 130,000 bike parking spaces, 300 school streets, 145,000 trees, 45 km of parks, and 140,000 fewer car parking spaces. Largely thanks to a light, quick, cheap experiment started 20 years earlier.🔚

Along the side of a brick park building, a cargo bike with an Ally Flag painted on it is parked next to a table and bike stand. A BMX bike is on the bike stand, and spare tubes and bike cleaning supplies are on the table.
Another angle of the cargobike and table. A few people are setting up other information tables and a grill on the background.

HOT RESEARCH NEWS!
Motonormativity ("car brain") is a bias that stops people making rational judgements about driving en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motonor...
Our new study shows where this bias comes from AND how it makes people think they're odd for supporting changes to the transport system 🧵

A cycle path running alongside a main road in the Netherlands. The cycle path is some distance away from it, and separated by tree planting, providing shelter from the wind and rain, keeping cyclists safe and comfortable, far from the noise and stress of motor traffic.
I wrote about the great Don Shoup, who was the kind of person you'd go to for an answer to a single question about parking and come away with 20 more story ideas about how to fix everything in LA
Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years. Mayor Anne Hidalgo’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people.
Good trade.
That was fun! Thanks for sharing!
And the Drumeo videos too, getting musicians to jam along to a song they've never heard of! So good and creative and fun to watch their process!

Not a musician but OMG it seems so fun! I've been semi-addicted to the YouTube shorts Pomplamoose has been doing of their sessions!

Super excited about this, along with a short trail spur to connect the neighborhood to Wiley Post Park! The park is such an amazing asset. Much needed neighborhood connectivity!
Relevant to OKC as our next bond vote is coming up. Make your voice is heard, wanting better transit and safer streets for all road users!

People on bikes and a car navigate an intersection. Approaching that intersection, the bike path and sidewalks continue smoothly, uninterrupted. The side street ramps up to the sidewalk's level.
It's so pleasantly quiet too (aside from when motor vehicles are going by).
And at an intersection, this continuous sidewalk and bike path that cars have to cross is straight out of my dreams!
True freedom of youthful mobility is not having to say "Mom/Dad, can you give me a ride?", it's given to you by a city that prioritizes people over cars.
I love how the noisiest parts of the video are occasional wind noise, or whenever a bus or car goes by on the adjacent street.
Cities aren't inherently loud. Cars are loud.
Check out this story from The Oklahoman: New bus shelters, pedestrian access to be funded with $19.5M grant
The U.S. Department of Transportation announced Friday it is awarding $19.5 million to Oklahoma City for upgrading bus shelters and pedestrian access.

Designing cities around people rather than cars means being able to more independently age in place, staying part of your community, no matter your mobility.
Advocate and vote for it now before you're stuck in a secluded retirement home, lonely, on the edge of a city surrounded by highways.
...after spinning, the car accelerated across 4 lanes and slammed harder into the right wall.
So I'm curious about what engineering solutions are fielded to prevent post-crash accelerations (as well as reducing risk of engine fire, like plugging off fuel sources from the engine).
Just saw a really rough car crash video (appears to be non-critical injuries thankfully) where a driver on a highway lost control, crashed into the left wall hard (sparks, lost bumper, presumably air bags would have deployed at that point).
Then...
Motor vehicle engineers and regulators: if a car crashes and airbags deploy, are there capabilities to cut the engine or fuel off?
Maybe not lock up the brakes, but anything to prevent the car from accelerating after a crash?
“A startling statistic emerged in Paris last month: during the morning and evening rush hours, on representative main thoroughfares crisscrossing the French capital, there are now more bicycles than cars – almost half as many again, in fact.”
