A long time ago, before I had actually met him, @tmcallister.bsky.social very patiently listened to me describe how good his own work was to him. He still tolerates me, and I still love his essays.
let me be very clear that if you’re making the “the democrats should distance themselves from trans issues” argument now, you would have been on the side of “maybe AIDS is simply what gay people deserve” in the 1980s and 1990s
friendly reminder I have a new chapbook out with @variantlit.bsky.social! which you should order! it has some of my all-time faves in it, and the cover is stunning too! variantlit.com/product/td/

The fight for reproductive freedom just became more crucial than ever. Donate and fight back: repro.fm/. 5xv9pi -Repro for All
Broken record, but if what you want is to help people get abortions, do not donate to Planned Parenthood or Reproductive Freedom for All fka NARAL. don’t even donate to the national network of abortion funds—donate to a LOCAL fund

I am seeing more and more opinions bubbling up about how throwing trans people to the wolves would be a winning strategy for Democrats, and I just want to quickly say: Fuck off with that absolute dog shit.
If you're looking for a distraction today, might I suggest the new ep of Book Fight, in which comedian/author/activist Charlie Demers joins us to discuss a "rediscovered" Donald Westlake novel about a famous comedian who is kidnapped by radicals www.bookfightpod.com/episodes/cha...
welcome to the most normal imaginable day on the internet
local news is remembering Quincy Jones by showing a freeze frame of his executive producer credit in the opening credits of Fresh Prince
Certainly nothing more important or notable than executive producing a sitcom starring a man who used to live here!
Extremely Philadelphia move

Today, NY Mag published an excerpt of my book, in which I talk about the past 50 years of the abusive evangelical "biblical parenting" movement, how "parental rights" entered the political lexicon, and why you shouldn't hit your kids: www.thecut.com/article/the-...
Great news for now! Help people in Georgia and across the Southeast get abortions:

Screenshot of an article in the New Republic Politics No matter who wins in November, building funds' capacity will be crucial, and it's a key goal of the lab. A potential President Kamala Harris can't snap her fingers and overturn abortion bans; she'll need majorities in the House and Senate to pull that off-an unlikely scenario given that Democrats are forecast to lose the Senate. But a Harris win could result in donors both big and small coming to believe that the battle is won and that abortion organizers no longer need their money. Jean-Charles has lived through this scenario after previous elections: "Folks who used to care about your issues go away because they assume that, 'well, this person is going to take care of it."
Screenshot of an article in the New Republic with one sentence highlighted: things are "fixed" when they see positive news developments under a Democratic president, like when a North Dakota lower court judge recently struck down the state's abortion ban. But the state is appealing the ruling, and, crucially, there are no abortion clinics left in North Dakota. PAF updated its Instagram followers to remind them that just because something is legal does not mean it's accessible. Even more pointedly, Spaeth said Democrats remaining in the White House mere'y prevents new federal restrictions. "A Harris presidency does fuck all for red states" she said. "It would be years and years ana years to be able to undo the damage that's been done." Meanwhile, conservative-led states will continue trying to crack down on abortion travel and assistance, via what she called "aiding and abetting bullshit."
Need more people to understand that Kamala possibly winning won’t fix abortion access. Abortion funds will still need our support.
“A Harris presidency does fuck all for red states," said Destini Spaeth of Prairie abortion Fund, serving North and South Dakota.
