Victim Assistance: Comparing best practices from long-term projects in Colombia with recent findings from the crisis context in Ukraine The Mine Ban Treaty recognize victim assistance (VA) as both a core obligation and a humanitarian priority. Colombia has made notable progress in reforming its laws and policies, developing long-term, inclusive, and community-based VA approaches shaped by its experience with internal conflict. In contrast, Ukraine faces a rapidly evolving challenge as ongoing hostilities create new contamination and victim assistance needs. Emerging evidence from Ukraine highlights both difficulties and innovative responses that may guide future best practices.
