A yellow-gold square graphic. In the center is a circular photo of several people working at remote workstations with laptops and chargers. Theyβre in a building with lights, outlets, and cupboards. The image has an orange glow behind it. Around the image is the title, Spark Space, Gaza, decorated with illustrated plugs. The text below says, βWe aim to create a safe, fully-equipped workspace with reliable electricity and fast internet, offering students and freelancers in Gaza the environment they need to continue their journey despite the hardships.β Below is the link chuffed.org/project/spark-space-gaza.
1/2 through this 2-day drive for Spark Space, a community project to provide some safety with electricity & internet for remote workers & students.
Β£5 will help them expand internet services - weβre trying to reach Β£1700, and Iβm matching up to 150.

π·πΈ Serbia: March 14th saw the largest protest in Belgrade against dictator Vucic since the 2000 protests against dictator Milosevic.
Those protests eventually led to Milosevic's overthrow and extradition to the Hague for his war crimes and genocide.
He died in a prison cell.
The rally β which is probably the biggest anti-government protest ever held in Serbia β comes after more than four months of anti-corruption demonstrations.

The week of March 17 is going to be filled with major data cosmology releases. On March 18, the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) will present its cosmology results from DR6. On March 19, DESI and Euclid will independently have data releases with PR. What might we learn? [1/n] βοΈππ§ͺ
Today is my first day taking my ADHD medication and holy shit are you telling me there are people whose brains are naturally this quiet and focused??
I could have justβ¦been living like this? Get to work and start without going through 27 load bearing coping mechanisms first??
β¦wild.
In light of this deeply illegal activity at NSF and the ongoing attack on American science, I'm posting the slides from my 2017 talk at the American Physical Society about the Nazi take over of German physics/why German is no longer science's lingua franca π§ͺ

After the 90s, my mom's whistle stood on our bookshelf in a small glass case with the text "In case of revolution, break glass."
That whistle and its box were lost at some point over the years, but the message remains. May we all break the glass together.
As one of my favorite protest signs said, "I inherited my whistle from my mom." In the anti-Milosevic protests of the 90s, whistles were used to express people's dissatisfaction; many of those same whistles are still in play.
I attended a few of the protests while in Belgrade; one had well over 10k people, and nevertheless, we all fell silent for 15 minutes for the 15 people who died in Novi Sad last November.
Making noise in such a crowd is powerful, but total communal silence brought tears to my eyes.
The other day I asked what's been bringing me hope and joy in dark times and for me that's 100% the Serbian students and their dedicated protests against government corruption.
The foreign reporting I've seen on the topic hasn't been the best, but here's a start: balkaninsight.com/2025/01/28/s...
"What I learned about Hamilton from the musical" is such a fantastic parallel to "what I learned from chatgpt". Absolutely cooked.

Considering how many will be impacted by this decision, the story isn't getting enough traction.

Happy belated stellar birthday π₯³
And, also. . . I think if we stop at "she predicted this!" we miss the real value in her work. . .
which is that she helped us imagine how we could thrive in it.

For Maths fans, 2025 is a square.
45Β² = 45 x 45 = 2025
Also,
9Β² x 5Β² = 2025
40Β² + 20Β² + 5Β² = 2025
My favourite?
1Β³+2Β³+3Β³+4Β³+5Β³+6Β³+7Β³+8Β³+9Β³ = 2025

Does this imply that βfeeling 22β is equivalent to the feeling of being surrounded by 7 pies?
