Your engine can barely handle games made by humans. Are you out of your mind
@reelfear
Howdy! I'm Cobalt! They/Them/It/Its. I'm a Game Developer, as well as artist/animator [2D & 3D] writer and great at yapping! I'm 20 and my current big project is It's Showtime! A Bendy Fan Game that rewrites the universe and story. I love to talk about it!
Your engine can barely handle games made by humans. Are you out of your mind
It is. SO FUNNY. that all Unity had to do over the last three years was to not constantly show their entire goddamn unwashed ass to the world and they just couldn't do it.
Nobody forced them to give Godot free advertising on a bi-monthly basis, that was all on them.
typing "half-life 3" into unity AI and having gamers elect me as the president of gaming for my brilliance
"we will make money by owning the program that you type the sentences into" no you won't i just vibe coded my own and released it for free
seen this headline for every type of media in existence by now. if this technology does work for some things, who exactly is expected to pay for a something that was made by typing a sentence into a computer program when anyone can just go type their own sentence into a computer program instead?
HEY THANKS UNITY!!!!
LITTLE REMINDER TO ANY AND ALL INDIE DEVS THAT MIGHT BE USING THAT AWFUL STUFF
GODOT IS GREAT AND GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME EVERY YEAR π
godotengine.org/releases/4.6/
At last, our shortage of casual video games is solved
I promise you if you use AI in any phase of your game development I will never buy that game, nor any other game you, or your studio, makes. Zero exceptions.
unity says it will punch itself in the crotch again
Sure, step one is the AI downloads a different engine.
given this won't appeal to people who care for the process or understanding of how to make things, and exists solely for people who view games as a means to some other profitable end, unity wants to imply these games can be profitable. were that true unity would pump them out instead of selling this
Godot has only been getting better and better and it has a great community behind it. I have been wishing for more people to use Godot by now and hopefully this is the kick in the rear to for people to finally do so
All of y'all that use unity should move over to godot, I hear it's more user friendly anyways
they just wanna give the indie scene to godot ig
The internet is already filled with soulless garbage articles, soulless garbage videos and soulless garbage 'art' ever since the AI boom. Unity wants to fill it with soulless garbage games too.
Stop using Unity, I say. #gamedev
When will AI replace the CEO?
Is that good? I would love to hear someone at Unity explain who this is good for. Is it good for gamers to be subjected to an endless parade of slop games drowning out games made by human craft? Is it good for the market to be saturation bombed by the inevitable hyper-automated slop-game-factories?
Is it good for Unity themselves to be reduced to a slop machine that destroys the livelihoods of actual developers? Is it good for the shareholders to cannibalise the market their product depends on? I literally can't think of a single stakeholder in society who benefits from this.
Godot prides itself in being welcoming to new contributors, letting any engine user have the possibility to make an impact on their engine of choice.
Maintainers spend a lot of time assisting new contributors to help them get PRs in a mergeable state.
I don't know how long we can keep it up.
- Is this code wrong because it was written by AI, or is it an honest mistake from an inexperienced human contributor?
- What do you do when you ask a PR author if they used AI because you're suspicious, and they all reply "yes I used it to write the PR description because I'm bad with English"?
We find ourselves having to second guess every PR from new contributors, multiple times per day:
- The description is verbose LLM output, is the code written at least partially by a human?
- Does the "author" understand the code they're sending?
- Did they test it? Are the test results made up?
..so anyway godot 4.6 is really good: godotengine.org/releases/4.6/
Honestly, AI slop PRs are becoming increasingly draining and demoralizing for #Godot maintainers.
If you want to help, more funding so we can pay more maintainers to deal with the slop (on top of everything we do already) is the only viable solution I can think of:
fund.godotengine.org
In today's episode of AI is ruining the thing you love; Godot could really use some extra funding just to judge if something is slop because they're getting overwhelmed
Godot's GitHub has increasingly many pull requests generated by LLMs and it's a MASSIVE time waster for reviewers β especially if people don't disclose it. Changes often make no sense, descriptions are extremely verbose, users don't understand their own changesβ¦ It's a total shitshow. #godotengine
