AHRQ has been hit even harder than NIH. They have no grant making staff at all.
This is a graph of the death of US science.
You can use ohb.hamclock.app:80 or hamclock.com:80 - either should work.
Make sure you use hostname:port (no : at the end) just as above. I just checked and both of the new servers seem to be working fine.
If you have a Mac you can use huberthickman.github.io/HamClockLaun...
Normal Mac app install - and it allows easy selection of the servers - either ohb.hamclock.app:80 or hamclock.com:80 or the legacy server. Select a resolution, select your server, Start Hamclock, then Open in Browser...
Right, since the guys working on HamClock have put the backend server in place my HamClock is back up and seems stable. Use this command line to activate using the new configuration:
hamclock -b ohb.hamclock.app:80

She never lived to see this moment, but itβs worth remembering that none of this would have happened without Virginia Giuffre.
She had the courage to speak out against power and privilege when it was just her word against Andrewβs.
Thanks to her, justice & accountability may finally have its day.

2026 basically
I covered an R meeting as a science writer a few years ago and it was some of the most fun I've had at a meeting and the attendees were so nice and happy to talk.

Moderna says FDA refuses its application for new mRNA flu vaccine
I don't know for sure, but AHRQ was decimated by staff cuts and losses.
I am checking on any active litigation.

Amateur radio operators are leaving screenshots of their HamClock installations on this Facebook thread:

as a tribute to creator Elwood Downey, WB0OEW, who passed away today.
If you are so inclined, perhaps share this with your ham radio contacts.
This lecture is now online, for the public!

A video of Alex Pretti reading out the final salute of an unnamed veteran he cared for until the end of his life in the ICU, posted to Facebook by his son.
Good news from Merck & Moderna. Custom-made mRNA vaccine, now dubbed intismeran autogene (mRNA-4157) + Keytruda linked to 49% lower risk of melanoma relapse or death. My read is that these vaccines have real potential not so much for initial treatment but to keep cancer in remission.
Fahrenheit 45-47.
No windows version of HamClock (it is deeply Unix-en) but in the past I have created both Windows and Mac executables of python apps in the same fashion.
So you end up with a Python application that has zero external dependencies. Just drag the thing into the Applications folder and go. No dev tools. No Xcode. No macports. No X11.... No "go install python stuff first". Folks have it running on 10.14 all the way up to and including Tahoe.
You turn that into an app using py2app. You sign all the executables/libraries and zip it up and send it the Apple Notary service. They will pass it (or not), you 'staple' it and then you create the dmg file and send it to the notary too.
It is still not the friendliest in the world because there are 4 distinct variants of the app for different screen resolutions. So I made a wxPython based app that will launch the different variants of HamClock. This app includes the compiled binaries of HamClock
HamClock is a wonderful tool for amateur radio folks. It is C++ and requires X11 to build. Many folks run it on raspberry Pi boxes. It does run on a Mac, and you can get some versions of it via macports, but not the web based versions (I have a PR in to fix that with them).
@mkennedy.codes @brianokken.bsky.social Hey guys - I am a mostly regular listener to the podcast - and know that y'all talk on occasion about building shippable Python applications - here is an example of one I did over my year end break:
