Half of our agricultural land is used for beef that provides 3% of our calories. Nobody likes it when I bang my spoon on my high chair about this but eventually we need to grapple with it.

Analysis: UK newspaper editorial opposition to climate action overtakes support for first time - Carbon Brief Nearly 100 UK newspaper editorials opposed climate action in 2025, a record figure that reveals the backlash against net-zero in the right-leaning press

Two things to learn from this.
1. The rightwing newspapers are lobby groups whose purpose is to advance the class interest of their proprietors.
2. Lobbyists for the rich and powerful lose their jobs if they are not prepared to lie.

The Sun alone published 51 editorials attacking Miliband

The Daily Mail, the Daily Telegraph and the Times published most of the remainder.

These editorials are remarkably personal - often attacking Miliband's character as well as suggesting he is "mad" due to his support for net-zero.

The Ed Miliband hate-fest in the UK press continued last year.

Predominantly right-wing newspapers published an incredible 112 editorials attacking the energy secretary.

That's two editorials a week, and more than twice as many as 2024, calling him a "crazed" "zealot" suffering with β€œeco insanity”

Truly wild that the Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Express & Daily Telegraph all covered false claims that net-zero will "cost" Β£7.6bn – or even Β£9tn – which assumes we could have free gas, free petrol, free petrol cars & free gas power plants if we scrapped net-zero
