After 15+ hour long days fighting forest fires I slept in a sleeping bag with no shower on a flat spot on a mountain side that I dug out with my pulaski. I'm a veteran. It kills me that a South African who brags about working long hours and sleeping on a cot in an office is firing thousands like me.

Feeling trapped like a, well, mouse? Spring is almost here. A toasty 70+ degrees here in NC today.

Stop going on about the price of eggs. Focus on what is causing the price of eggs to be so high (i.e. bird flu). Then focus on what is happening to the federal agencies that protect us from things like bird flu. The next pandemic is coming and we won't be prepared for it and millions more will die.

On the Manti-La-Sal National Forest we GPSed and documented over 400 miles of user created illegal trails in one season. Who will stop the destruction of your forests with no one out there protecting it? Forest Service employee's lives matter. No offense meant to BLM. Just saying.

In 1 season recreation was involved with seven search and rescues like finding lost hikers and lost snowmobilers, a person who fell off a cliff, one who flipped their ATV, one who died from altitude sickness etc. We saved lives and when something bad happened on the forest they came to us for help.

And when there isn't anyone to fight fires, clear or maintain trails, clean bathrooms, pick up garbage they will come screaming. I was a FS volunteer and seasonal for several years before becoming a permanent employee. I know what it means to you to lose your jobs. I'm standing with you.

The majority of communities that lie within or near National Forests are rural red communities and they will pay dearly. Good luck to them if the states take them over or no money is given to the federal land management agencies. For 20 years I was on many fires that cost millions per day to fight.

Actually a South African immigrant did steal your job.

A shout out to all those who are sitting on the sidelines and letting the new administration destroy our public land management agencies like the National Park and Forest Services. They are being dismantled which will lead to serious environmental damage to places that make our country great. Fight!

Hey that photo was used by the National Wildlife Federation several years back to celebrate Earth Day.

And don't forget to carry bear spray in grizzly country and hike in numbers. This is Blaze and she was killed because she attacked and killed a hiker who apparently was alone and not carrying bear spray.

Remember, every day should be earth day. It's time to fight like never before to protect our remaining wild places. The new administration must be stopped.

If you are not familiar with what is happening to grizzlies and wolves in your National Parks and Forests it's time to get educated. They are under assault.

Most Forest Service fire fighters aren't full time fire fighters. They are folks in recreation, timber, wildlife, range, archaeology or work the front desks. They are trained to fight fires or support those who do. They swell the fire fighter ranks when needed and put it all on the line.

I worked for the Forest Service (you know the agency that had 3400 employees canned yesterday) in Sedona and I rebuilt the steep rock staircase below the bridge and below Midgley Bridge as well. I had help of course. Sedona is where I met my wife and will always be a special place.
