Honestly, I am not particularly anti-AI, but you have to be absolutely off the planet to allow it the freedom to change anything in a production database.

"What're we doing, guys? Painting some Warhammerβ’ miniatures with Warhammerβ’ paints and... Citadelβ’ brushes?"
Some people showcase intelligence not by discussion but by playing a game called "find the flaw". It is a very easy game but irresistible to junior paper reviewers, critical theorists, and terminal posters. If you know who's playing, it explains everything from reviewer 2 to "you hate waffles".
Reusable, durable data pipelines take a lot of careful thought - AI by default will generate messy, brittle, ramshackle script collections
Think this is a take with strong chance of being right especially short term
this is the moment that gamedevs everywhere crumble under the weight of their own GDC ambitions

A phot of my notebook in which I have drawn little boxes. These boxes each represent a page spread, and I am sketching out the rough elements of the layout in each little box.
A thing I started doing a few years ago is sketching little versions of the page layouts of the 'zine I'm working on as I go. This helps me visualize the final page spreads and where the images will be in relation to each other.
No college in the world can produce such talent now
obviously it doesn't stop them from doing damage, but it does warm the heart a bit when you notice that most anti-trans activists seem to have no other interests, and are visibly warped by their obsessions.
it's Keep Your Cool Wednesday. It's where you keep your cool midweek instead of losing your fucking shit and crashing the fuck out.
So far, the strongest "effect" of LLMs seems to be a compulsion to see this technology outside of history, and attributing pathologies to them that predate them. It's a bad way of thinking about this or any technology.
we can argue about whether the the present situation is better or worse, but we shouldn't talk like 2022 was a prelasparian state. or as if all of these problems were unproblematically caused by LLMs. history did not begin in 2023 and the reality distorting effect of LLMs does not require using them
Canada. Even basic food is ridiculously priced here.
There's just so much fucking money being thrown away and hoarded that when I'm at the grocery store trying to justify $4 cans of soup I just kindof want to cry a little bit in the middle of a supermarket lol

thank you to Sharon for brining to my attention that since at least 2012, Marco Rubio has confused Chiang Kai-shek for something he imagined:

ICE under Trump 2.0 built an unprecedented media operation - deploying videographers to raids, pumping out edgy social posts, swiping pop music for hype videos - and the main metric for evaluating its impact shows that Americans now hate ICE more than ever

In less than 10-20 years trans people will have the overwhelming culturally dominant victory gay people did w/Obergefell. Trans people are visible. There are more of us out than ever despite the fight to keep us in the closet & dead. Many of us are parents now. We're aunt & uncles now. We will win.
tl;dr: more people should watch this gentleman's speech and think seriously about what he is saying

a thing historians will marvel about when they study this era is the extent to which the "war is a thing that happens to poorer, browner people" class went about systematically dismantling every aspect of the global political order that confined the costs of war to poorer and browner people

I'm writing a story about the VR industry in 2026, and I'm looking to speak with people at GDC who've been in it over the past decade and can speak to where it was and what it's like now. If that's you, DM me here!
