This is a chilling crime. A shame on our country. The Iranian ship was unarmed. The US knew this. The sailors were murdered by our navy, and the survivors were left to die at sea.

Crude oil continues its rapid march to $100.
April WTI futures up another 8% this morning, after 8% yesterdayβ¦
budget assumption was $60.50. the futures price for the full year strip is $70 and change. The idea here is if that's a reasonable expectation of realized prices over the year, it's a $10 delta, times the $680 sensitivity = ~$6B

I think everyone (ok, many, or someβ¦) are just craving a modicum of competency from our leaders and govt machinery at this point.
Carney is showing that, even if his individual actions and policies donβt always align with certain views.
Itβs actually tightened. Slightly tighter than the budget forecast, so another positive deviation.
Fx is bang on forecast.

Worth noting that this effect was only identified around the time of the spring DST transition. It can't directly tell us about the effect from *permanent* DST. But the sign should still be informative.

I once wrote a paper on the effect of DST on electricity use. It turns out BC had the biggest savings. Whereas elec use goes up in AB!
It comes down to BCers waking up later relative to sunrise, as compared to AB. The DST shift is less costly in the morning, but get full gain in evening.

100%. In my pre-academic life on Wall St we used to manage some of the Mexican βHacienda Hedgeβ. Seems natural for AB to consider it.
Indeed. Of course the govt could hedge with futures and options if they so chose, like Mexico does.
local AB niche post: this after-hours move is a +$4.5B move for the Alberta treasury (if sustained for a year)
Good day to consider an electric vehicle, or bike...
WTI (oil) futures up 11%, were up 15% at the open.
Electing Trump the first time could have been seen as an aberration, a quirk of US politics that would not be repeated. But electing him a second time sent a clear signal to the rest of the world that it is imperative to reduce military and economic dependence on the US because it is unstable.
Two photos. The first shows Catturd tweeting: Name one US inspired regime change that hasn't ended in absolute disaster The next tweet shows him posting an AI illustration of Khamenei turned into a pile of dust. It says "I'm eliminated."
Two tweets. The first shows Laura Loomer promoting her show, where she says "A message has been sent that we are not interested in going back to the way politics were prior to Donald Trump, prior to 2016. We don't want warhawks. We don't want any more Neocons. We want American First. Period. End of discussion." The next tweet says: Today is a great day. Our military is amazing. @PeteHegseth is an absolute killer. Now you see why the Deep State worked so hard against him. Itβs great having a Sec War who has Infidel literally tattooed on his body. He actually gets it. God bless him.
Two tweets. The first shows Will Chamberlain tweeting: The Republican Party is no longer the party of regime change and endless wars. If you want to be its standard-bearer that is a non-negotiable position. The next tweet shows him posting "Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is dead." The tweet has a USA flag attached.
Two tweets. The first shows Gunther Eagleman tweeting: "Warmonger Lindsey Graham just rushed to Fox to advocate for U.S. involvement as soon as he could. He is also pushing for a US-backed regime change in Iran. I would like to renominate Graham to get a one-way ticket to the frontlines of every war he wants America involved in." There's an attached video of Graham speaking. The next shows Eagleman tweeting: UST IN! President Trump is HARD AT WORK all weekend after the massive strikes on Iran! Heβs already on the phone with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte! Trump is a machine!" There's an attached video of a news segment about the war in Iran.

People keep saying that this goes against the Davis speech. It does not. Carney said the rules based international order was always hypocritical, is now dead, and we live in a time of rupture. I disagree with support but this is not against what he said. The sign is gone. GONE GONE.
Alex Stubb (Finland) not offering the same full throated support for US strikes as Carney. Far from it.
these are not the actions befitting of a FIFA Peace Prize winner
also, to echo wise words from @gkfellows.bsky.social:
sales and income tax revenue scales with population; resource royalties do not.
annual reminder: Alberta's deficit is a choice.
oh yeah, the tax doesn't stop at the border. It propagates globally. Anti-trade measures have a way of shrinking the total pie. But it's still a tax on Americans.
it's a tax.
i've been enjoyable the recent strategy of largely ignoring the theatrics and proceeding to actively engage with other like-minded countries.
