Virginia Woolf is a complicated person. Her history is nuanced. However, she made THE transgender novel, masterpiece, called Orlando.
Why did she make it?
Was she enamored by the idea of a trans woman?
Was she just a bisexual, a lesbian, trapped in 1928?
Or did she want to be a man, Shelmerdine?
Still from Orlando (1992) Tilda Swinton in an early 1800's femmine dress. It is white. She is holding up a handheld mirror after she magically changed sex. A servant looks at her with admiration.
The amount of trans women (and men, and Non-Binary people) who know not of Orlando is disappointing but i have a feeling that will change in Three years time.
