Art is deeply personal, self promotion is demoralising, the idea that someone likes our stuff is exciting. To exploit that is inhumane.

Terrible thing about being a standup-turned-writer is I have the slightly unacceptable urge to stand behind you all as you read and make notes on which bits make you laugh.
Well, better that people got their copies and I got £0 than vice versa which would be a moral and logistical nightmare. Still would rather have been paid
