I'm not going to suggest that responsible gun owners on the right side of history forfeit access to a potential shred of power they can weild against fascism simply because it COULD be used against them.

There's a dialectic to be juggled here. There are flaws to the way mainstream liberals talk about guns and it's a fair question from vox. The decision to arm oneself doesn't require one to sign off on gun culture, or to approve of the sorry state of US gun laws.
