Part of the joy of obtuse games is seeking out community to overcome them. From Druaga to Zelda to Myst, ostensibly single-player games were elevated by sharing info about secrets, maps, and puzzles. The game outside the game mattered.
Mechanically difficult games especially do not get this respect
