The sisters had such limited lives--One died at the age of 30, the other 42. And never revealed a life beyond religion and the household. Whereas yes, the brothers had full rich lives--although so weird that only one married.

Bless you--it was my revised dissertation, so very dear to my heart.

Victor de Lamothe
So cool: a few days ago, I got a message from a descendant of the 18th C Bordelais family that was the subject of my 1st book (from 2000!). He sent photos of Victor and Delphin de Lamothe's portraits. It's amazing to see the images of these men I spent so much time reading and writing about.
Once more before Sunday ends, hereβs todayβs thread. Please share widely to get all this great work to all the folks who need to see it and hear it and connect with it this February 1. ποΈ @hcrichardson.bsky.social
I will ponder! I know that I have read stuff on neighborliness--but also , women's bonds--maybe this? Moch, Leslie Page, and Rachel G. Fuchs. βGetting along: Poor Womenβs Networks in Nineteenth-Century Paris.β French Historical Studies 18, no. 1 (1993): 34β49. doi.org/10.2307/286950.
Trump's trajectory proves my theory of aging. As people grow older, they are like a cup of boiling wine reducing into a sauce. Whatever personality traits they have intensify, becoming more and more pronounced. In his case, narcissism, greed, and cruelty.
I want to score an interview with Stephen Colbert.
I have never been simultaneously so proud to be from Minnesota and so embarrassed to be American.
Good. Thank you.
Joined the #ICEoutforgood protest at Clarendon in NOVA today. Itβs not enough, but itβs something!
He is generously compensated to do nothing but sh*tpost all day.
Just got a booster as well for the same reason. Also hepatitis B series.
Why did Wes Moore agree to participate in this?
Thank you! Let me know if you need a copy!
Very happy that my article in the @sfhs.bsky.social journal is out. It's my first exploration of the argument I am making in my book project about elite women during the Directory and how they were re-conceptualized in theater and literature in the 19th century. read.dukeupress.edu/french-histo...
Happy #pubday to "The Course of Human Events: The Declaration of Independence and the Historical Origins of the United States" by @stevesarson.bsky.social !
How reading the Declaration of Independence as a document of history explains its intended meaning

Getting really tired of the fact that not only has @Netflix.com added commercials, despite the hefty subscription fee, but they keep ratcheting up the number and length. Getting ready to cancel.
Thank you for reading it!
I'm looking forward to reading this!
It did indeed. On many levels.
Came on here to say that I just read your September essay from the Chronicle on resisting AI, and I thought it was terrific. Thank you.
Great idea from @cholden07.bsky.social--Democratic candidates for president should promise that they will rip down the #Epstein ballroom and rebuild the #EastWing --and "The Trump family will pay for it!"
It shouldn't be. It's a monstrosity. It should go the way of Uday and Qusay's palace.
Thanks to @americanstudier.bsky.social for his always-useful round up and the shout out for my Made by History article on the difficulties of political reconciliation earlier this week. Here is the link: time.com/7321634/fren...
F*ck the Department of "Justice."
I wrote this for TIME's Made by History. Responsible political leadership would help today as well! time.com/7321634/fren...
DC was the place to be today! And any place else that like-minded people turned out. #NoKings
I remember when it was a black mark if a circuit court was regularly overturned by #SCOTUS. Doesn't it seem as if SCOTUS should be embarrassed that suddenly they are overturning all the courts all the time? That maybe the lower courts are getting it right and they are the problem?
Really fabulous to meet @jamellebouie.net tonight when he was giving his terrific Constitution Day Lecture at #SMCM.
My Pangur (also a rescue)somehow knows the exact moment that I am about to get out of bedβand delicately places herself on top of me to prevent it. And so I have to stay, because it does feel meaningful.
