β€œChina’s high-speed rail network reportedly surpassed 50,000 kilometers in December 2025…the circumference of the planet Earth is about 40,000 kilometers. China’s built enough electric super-fast train tracks to wrap all the way around the Equator and then some.” All in ~20 yrs…first launch in 2008!

The world’s 280 million electric bikes and mopeds are cutting demand for oil far more than electric cars Electric vehicles get all the press – but it’s the smaller unsung two wheelers cutting oil demand the most.

"In the United States, a staggering 60% of all car trips cover less than 10km."

It's the reason for 'strategic oil reserves' and foreign wars.

So that people can harvest 5 kg of groceries within a three-kilometre radius using a two-tonne car.

Scotland. Woke this morning to rain chucking down and 1-2m visibility. By the time I left for the gym the sun was peeking out. Stepped out of my 45min bouldering session to bright blue sky. An hour later, booming thunder and a dark grey wall rapidly upon us. Too windy to even attempt an umbrella πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Over 40% of global shipping by volume exists to move fossil fuels from one place to another.

A huge share of the world's maritime infrastructure has been built around a system that is going to change dramatically as renewable energy and electrification displace fossil fuels.

Did not know about the Olympic Truce, in which the IOC prohibits any nations who attack another nation during the period one week before, to one week after the summer and Winter Olympics from competing in the following Olympic Games.

Which means the US should be prohibited from competing in LA 2028

It is absurdly improbable that you can hoover up the internet, shred it, then talk to the mulch pile and it talks back.

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

I’m so looking forward to finally seeing the Outsiders exhibit! Been following you since you started working on the project. Lived in Canada at the time, so never expected I’d be in the right place at the right time. But now I live in Glasgow πŸŽ‰

every time i see a white guy in their fifties radicalized by the twitter algorithm into racism and extremism i think about how it's a total failure of the youtube algorithm to instead radicalize him into home brewing, elaborate A/V setups, or DIY solar

I AM VINDICATED AND JOYFUL

(also this gives fuel to @rabbimarkasherg.bsky.social and my longstanding conversation about whether or not dinosaurs would have been kosher for shabbos dinner but)

I’ve already flipped back. Was finding myself squinting a lot to discern detail in photos and UIs. Didn’t dislike it in principle though. Definitely soothing. May try again :)

Ooh. That is nice! I feel I will miss the colour sometimes though. When it’s used to attract attention (or helps me quickly scan:differentiate between things via colour). Happy to be proven wrong though! Will keep it like this for a few days. See if it sticks ☺️

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 71616:
If you're struggling to stay creative during the dark part of the year, go back to what you love. Re-read, re-watch, rediscover old favourites. Remind yourself why you're doing this. Find your joy.
