ignoring my rant, though, it does kind of surprise me how little rigor there seems to be to the polygon reviews/articles, as any self respecting editor should've read "Leon Kennedy is kind of like a hiroshima survivor" and at the very least gone "why don't you back it up with a source"

that all said, I refuse to make an actual response to such a review, mostly due to my very clear bias (my current pfp is a character from a game very close to my heart...) and to the fact that I am no journalist myself and do not want to play at being one just because a random guy annoyed me

besides the proper game complaints, which felt either like they didn't play the same game as I did or didn't understand how the game works, which I feel is just a skill issue at that point

which like, agreed on at least one account, for the characters, if not a few more, but I would prefer more detailing on that sort of claim, instead of just a vague gesturing to "woman don't have human proportions in the funky vamp game"

they made a Code Vein 2 review that is just dogshit, like, it shits on the game, and that's the ok part, but every argument for such is either a lie, a misinterpreted detail of something the game outright spells out to you or like, design complaints about the game and characters

this is a personal pet peeve of mine, and it has been bouncing on my head ever since I read it, so I'm gonna explain it quickly here:

dunno how good the Polygon's reviews/pieces were before they got bought, but honestly, this is the second 'swing and a miss' unsubstanciated review that makes great claims without any sort of backing

I hope the Requiem review didn't also just lie and misinterpret clear narrative details too

like was "finding nemo" really the first thing that came up after reading and writing about "physical and mental torture" because personally I didn't think the movie was half-bad

is her point of comparison that the child is a sadist with the fish and the mc here is a sadist with the guy? because I can think of at least 8 other fictional sadists in well-known movies and at least 3 of those are women

eh, watch out for that line of thought, a lot of femdom is still written with women living *to spite men* that is to say, the characters are still generally one note and revolve around men, instead of being written as their own people with their internality outside of their relation to gender roles

tbf I find it extremely funny that the first step outside the set norm a writer takes, these people instantly come out of the woodworks to try to criticize to hell and back

I mean, personally I'd prefer children to have new shit made to cater to them, instead of old rehashed shit to appeal to parents' nostalgia

but y'know, yeah, it Is a children's movie, and therefore clearly the only demographic being sold to is current day kids, with a 30 year IP, about 'ipad bad'

I remember avoiding the early access due to some of the reviews saying it felt like a whole different series with a Blazblue code of paint, is that still true? because the vibe I got from what you wrote was quite the opposite of that

I feel like LN titles at least aren't as clearly citing genres, like at most it's just "the isekai story about x" which honestly, generally isn't about x

that said, you could mix both to make the worst title in existance, both long, meandering and mostly just an AO3 tags list

tbf I'd say it's already doing that, every set release I see (and mind you those are all the UB set releases, seeing as they have released 1 new normal ass set in recent times) appear and disappear like a wet fart in the rain

tbf though, for as high as that game's highs are, it never gets as fucking batshit insane as some of the executions that Dangan has, mostly because the tone is completely different

like nobody gets turned into butter or is put through the tetris machine

exactly, and the regionalism is pretty strong in brazil too. like even within the state of rio people get mad defensive over where theyre from. which makes sense too bc even that limits your access to shit. i live in the baixada and its VERY different from living in the capital
