Daydreaming on the veranda at Poppy's cafe after dabbling in the AWM reading room.
Last day of summer. A mild, lightly breezy and cloudy day. Everything was just perfect for my final walk of the season.
Following on ... the ones I've seen tend more to give the benefit of the doubt if intent is not clear ie in the absence of a note. This just seems to give too much information. Again, I do wonder if it is sex related, especially noting the 'nervous breakdown'.
Yes, I was surprised. Admittedly different periods (1930s-60s ) but I've seen certificates with less details tho I know the outcome. Depending on jurisdiction they often simply defer to the coroners report. Interestingly, all were men. I wonder if sex made a difference or that she was med personnel.
That's terribly sad.
Not much longer now!
Weβve got some interesting tales to tell, factual and fictional - donβt miss any of it, including βthe Jameses Showβ in the third session! -JDK
And just like that, there was a rainbow.
Registered for the Aviation Cultures Print the Legend 27-28 Feb yet? aviationcultures.org/spotlights/p... I'm talking about Clive Caldwell and there are lots of other fantastic papers. It's online (via Zoom) and free. My paper is second on the 27 Feb session: 10.00 am Sydney / 9.00 am Brisbane.
The thing about impulsively going out for a snack is that some of the items on the to do list just don't get done. Oh well. The hash browns and milkshake, and of course the company (and book) were worth it. And as for the to do list, there is always tomorrow!
Some of the trees in our streets are starting to think its autumn. Not too long now! My walk was sadly interrupted: it started pouring. And has continued ever since. Looks like we are due for a fair bit this week. Gardens/gardeners will be pleased though I am not too fond of strolling in the rain.
We don't 'do' Valentines Day in our household. Why save one day for declaring undying love? 'Love is all Around', remember! There is more to everlasting love than the partner of your dreams. And this almost says it all. All you need is love, and a cat, a good book or two, and a nice cup of tea! π€£
Scones for afternoon tea!
I knew I had a few Oz aircrew memoirs but I didn't know how many. Still don't really know: but there are quite a few piles! I'm loaning them to a friend who's cataloguing memoirs for her research database (& promises faithfully to return 'em). Perhaps she can tell me how many I have! #histbookchat
Don't forget to register for Print the Legend!
Thanks, Dave. It was a lovely surprise and yes a perfect start to the perfect day.
What an impressive birthday cake! A very fitting and to a very happy birthday.
Unless that is on free TV, I will never see it. But one of my favourite favourite shows is the Detectorists. So gentle, so whimsical, so very British. Or my perception British absolutely delightful.
Just waiting for someone to pour it. I guess you know which one is for me. The others have more sophisticated taste.
A little surprise with my morning coffee at our favourite cafe!
Perfect cupcake!
David's pleased with his lifeline finds. Some to sell, some for him, & one for me. Warrior, Soldier, Brigand @docconnor.bsky.social has duly been swiped for her library. I'm not as impressed with two of his finds. How could anyone discard them? They should be treasured!!!!
Transcribing oral history interviews. Or at least relevant bits. Definitely needed a reward afterwards. Look @narrellemorris.bsky.social at top notch choc chip and blueberry muffin! And cost was a lot less that at the other place. Sometime research (and afterwards) is fun. BTW: some 'gold'.
Cake store! And eyes is bigger than my stomach. Fortunately, I have a big freezer.
I've been trying to set up zoom on my lap top. It gives me the option of putting in a virtual background. So I thought, why not my own bookcases rather than some scenery thing? I did a little bit of rearranging. It's very subtle ... can you see what I've done?
I have taken my own cold scone to this place but was caught out today. Thought I would be there for at least an hour when I would have been collected then chauffeured to NLA. But alas, 10 minutes if that and he had messages to run. So ... stale muffin and the soy milk I don't like. NLA on Saturday!
I can't stand grey days. I really get SAD. Fingers crossed the sun comes out soon for you!
Western contrails!
If an Australian, in Australia, had destroyed a war grave, or thrown paint on a Shrine or War Memorial, he/she would be pilloried (and rightly so).
It is no secret I'm a techo idiot. Spent A Very Long Time downloading zoom onto my lap top. Couldn't link it to my calendar. Couldn't work out how to do a background pic. No guarantee it will actually work on the day when I will need to turn up and share a powerpoint. Fingers crossed.
