Tell folks not to try to panic update their passports. We cannot change our gender right now, and in some places there is risk of your documents being confiscated. Your passports are technically government property according to 22 cfr 51.7, and they can be taken from you (and already have been for some people). This means that not only can they reject your application (and at this point they will), but they can also straight up keep your passport and other supporting documents. In Whitman county (conservative county south of where I live) some people went to get their passports updated and the employees there told them their application was rejected *and they took those people's passports*. It's all still rapidly updating and likely will for quite a time. Just tell folks not to panic hand their passport over - it's too messy right now.

To my American trans friends and followers, a word of warning before passport offices open tomorrow from a friend currently dealing with this situation
