Age and growth of two smooth-hound shark species from the eastern central Pacific Ocean Understanding how fast sharks grow and how long they live is key to protecting them. In this study, we provide the first estimates of age and growth for tw

These results improve our understanding of shark life histories, a key step in global #fisheries assessments and conservation plans.

What does ageing tell us about smooth-hound #sharks’ resilience? New age and growth estimates help answer that 🦈

By analysing vertebral bands and growth models, Briones-Mendoza et al. provided the first reliable growth parameters for two smooth-hound species in the eastern #Pacific.

Great! ... Please big funding groups take notice to prioritise $ where most needed, like basic life history of non-sexy but data poor sharks and rays...for example, in our recent assessment, i had to borrow data from related species to provide management advice on stock status of several species 😢

A Global Synthesis of Population Demographic Models in Sharks and Rays Demographic models are vital tools in fisheries management, particularly for data-limited species such as sharks and rays. However, a significant gap exists in the statistical quantification of produ....
