Exciting 2026 Book Releases According to Chanda! This year there will be an incredible array of books by Black and/or queer scientists, and more!

I do have a list of book releases in 2026 that I think you should be buying/borrowing and reading, many of them non-fiction, all of them available through your local indie bookshop.org/lists/exciti...

Pre-Ordering Books Makes You More of a Citizen of Literature Recently on Bluesky, I was shouting as usual about Lessons in Magic and Disaster, my novel that comes out in about a month. (It's about a young trans woman...

All caps: PREORDERS MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF A BOOK

as @charliejane.bsky.social explains here: ”When you pre-order a book, you are taking a more active role in supporting that book and that author, and it makes your relationship with both quite a bit more meaningful.”

The other thing I need to say is that PUBLICATIONS NEED TO COVER CULTURE INCLUDING BOOKS

I keep hearing that publications are declining to do book reviews. Places like @physicstoday.aip.org and WaPo got rid of their book sections entirely πŸ§ͺ

We want people to learn about science but where?

Are we falling out of love with nonfiction? In the early 2020s, readers flocked to books to explain political turbulence. But is the world now too grim to read about – and are podcasters taking the place of authors?

If we learned nothing else from 2025, it’s that we shouldn’t take for granted that what we love will continue to be funded

If people and libraries don’t buy a certain kind of book, publishers will stop investing in them

That’s also one reason the library book bans are so scary

What Will Be Left After the University of Texas Destroys Itself? | The Nation UT-Austin has collapsed its race, ethnic, and gender studies into a single program while a new policy asks faculty to avoid β€œcontroversial” topics. But the attacks won’t end there.

All Texas universities are under attack.

ALL universities are under attack.

I have a challenge for the interwebs...

Can we find someone who attended the 1990 International Astronomical Youth Camp in Pokljuka, Slovenija (Yugoslavia)?

I have a copy of the IAYC '90 Report and it would be fun to rehome it with someone for whom it has meaning.

It’s weird how this doesn’t say β€œoops we accidentally pushed out/incentivized to leave/fired” a lot of engineers and it turns out engineering projects need those.

For all the but how can we afford space exploration folks…this means we’ve already spent more on this war that started last week than Cassini cost in the 26 years it took to build, launch, and operate it.

I work with a lot of scientists, and when I ask them to come and talk to my staff about what they do, they line up around the block. When my neighbor's son was getting ready to go to college and wasn't sure what he wanted to study, they gave him an all-day grand tour.

When someone says β€žScientists do not want you to knowβ€œ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.
