And absolutely requesting at your library is an important type of preorder!! bsky.app/profile/ouro...
All caps: PREORDERS MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF A BOOK
as @charliejane.bsky.social explains here: βWhen you pre-order a book, you are taking a more active role in supporting that book and that author, and it makes your relationship with both quite a bit more meaningful.β
The other thing I need to say is that PUBLICATIONS NEED TO COVER CULTURE INCLUDING BOOKS
I keep hearing that publications are declining to do book reviews. Places like @physicstoday.aip.org and WaPo got rid of their book sections entirely π§ͺ
We want people to learn about science but where?
If we learned nothing else from 2025, itβs that we shouldnβt take for granted that what we love will continue to be funded
If people and libraries donβt buy a certain kind of book, publishers will stop investing in them
Thatβs also one reason the library book bans are so scary

Book standing on wooden table in a library. Cover is black with white text and a photo of a gibbous moon. Text reads: International Astronomical Youth Camp 1990, Pokljuka - Slovenija - Jugosolavija, IAYC '90 Report.
I have a challenge for the interwebs...
Can we find someone who attended the 1990 International Astronomical Youth Camp in Pokljuka, Slovenija (Yugoslavia)?
I have a copy of the IAYC '90 Report and it would be fun to rehome it with someone for whom it has meaning.
this is murder

Itβs weird how this doesnβt say βoops we accidentally pushed out/incentivized to leave/firedβ a lot of engineers and it turns out engineering projects need those.
For all the but how can we afford space exploration folksβ¦this means weβve already spent more on this war that started last week than Cassini cost in the 26 years it took to build, launch, and operate it.
The IDSov movement is becoming increasingly well known. Here I present a world renowned chemist and pharma lawyer wearing my face as evidence!

i love this
I work with a lot of scientists, and when I ask them to come and talk to my staff about what they do, they line up around the block. When my neighbor's son was getting ready to go to college and wasn't sure what he wanted to study, they gave him an all-day grand tour.
If you stand next to a scientist for too long they *will* tell you everything they study
Itβs why we all came to bluesky. We just want to tell you all the science things!
Honestly, you're lucky Scientists aren't under your window all night reading aloud from their latest research.
When someone says βScientists do not want you to knowβ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They canβt shut up about what they found out and want you to know.
@erinleeryan.bsky.social will never live this down, but I for one love her for this.
