The impact is already hitting science agencies hard. The NIHβthe world's largest public biomedical research funderβhas had to rely on leftover stopgap funds.
New grant awards have slowed to a trickle β exacerbating the effects of a record-long shutdown in October.

Most cash-transfer programs have failed to produce health gains in the U.S.βexcept for SNAP, Aaron Richterman and Harsha Thirumurthy argue.

Congress rejected massive cuts to US science budgets for 2026, but much of the money still isnβt flowing to researchers.
The culprit? The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is quietly slow-walking the release of funds. π§΅π
LOL. Would not be surprised at this point.
I appreciate receiving multiple copies of my abstract rejection after having received two notices previously of the same rejection. I get it. It is rejected. Please stop. π
They have long been a reliable source for training grants in my field so I can't imagine how it impacts PhD and post-doc funding in the next few years. Really sad.
That is what it sounds like. AHRQ funded for the T32 but no personnel to release funds is what I have heard.
Later this year, a new law will end Medicare eligibility for hundreds of thousands of lawfully present older immigrants, including some refugees and asylees.
Here's what advocates need to know:

Yep. Funding is about a year late for a post doc program that was supporting one of my fellows. An award already made, but no dollars released. Also hearing similar things from faculty about R01s.
If you're in academia and you think we can just "ride this out," please read this #thread and think about how the current attacks on scientific research disproportionately affect junior researchers- who are literally the future.

As my colleague Andy Schneider explained there is a complex administrative process CMS has to follow to preemptively withhold or retrospectively disallow federal #Medicaid funding for a state like MN. It would be unlawful to just unilaterally halt federal funding: ccf.georgetown.edu/2026/01/16/c...
