Great news - HB 4134 passed out of the House Revenue Committee Monday night in a 6–1 vote 🎉! It was originally set for a House floor vote on February 19th, but it’s now been moved to February 24th.

Unlike many large seaweeds that live for multiple years, #bullkelp grows from a microscopic spore in the spring to towering over 100 ft long by late summer - all in a single season. By winter, the entire plant dies, leaving only microscopic spores behind to start the cycle again.

Male #seaotters are known to travel long distances in search of new territory and potential mates. But without an established population of females here, they don’t stay long. Until Oregon has a stable, reproducing population, these visiting males are just that - visitors 👋. (3/3)
Does this mean #seaotters are naturally repopulating #Oregon? Unfortunately, no 😕. These sightings are typically lone males, most likely dispersing from the southern Washington population, the nearest established group to Oregon. (2/3)

🌊 The intertidal zone is the area where the ocean meets the land between high and low tides. It’s a place of constant change - sometimes submerged beneath crashing waves, other times exposed to sun and wind - and only the toughest creatures can handle it.

White sharks visit Oregon’s waters to feed on marine mammals like seals and sea lions, and they also appear to time their arrival with the seasonal abundance of lingcod. White sharks are just one of 16 shark species that call the Oregon coast home.
A 16-foot female white shark was recently detected off the coast of Tillamook, Oregon, when her satellite tag “pinged.” Researchers have named her Kara 🦈.
