I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

Agreed, although I will say one thing I’ve seen a bunch of recently is LLM-written tests that say “// Test that BleepBloop bloops bleeps” and then do nothing of the sort — on two occasions not even exercising the code under test. (Not suggesting for a minute that you’d be guilty of that!)
Lots of nuance here. Definitely less effective than working through problems with someone with substantial experience in the area. Probably more effective than doing so with many. Working with another human costs another human, but also there are twice as many opportunities for humans to level up!
