Okay so let me get this straight, a oligarch country that elected a suspected pedophile & known rapist over his Christian values, and an illegally nuclear genocidal apartheid nation that keeps electing war criminals to do war crimes, those are the good guys because they bombed a primary girls school

An $840B IPO would represent nearly 2.5% of the total value of the Nasdaq index. And this rule would potentially oblige index funds and ETFs to buy it, participants who represent something like 20% of the market. Am I missing something or is this really fucked up?

Oh wow. That seems… really fucked up?

Serious question: is an $840B IPO even conceivable? Like, who the hell is on the buy side of those trades? Pension funds are surely not buying IPOs?

In my experience it’ll depend strongly on the role. Management? Get out. There’s no escaping the chaos. Non-management with a good manager? You might be able to keep your head down and do good work ignoring most of the chaos.

This is such a huge issue even inside walled gardens. One group gets to feel β€œmore productive” by deferring the application of human judgment to another group, who now have to choose between doing way more actual work or phoning it in.

A screenshot of an β€œAI Overview” from a Google search for a term from curling (the sport), which shows an embedded YouTube video. The video is quite clearly about how to curl the hair on one’s head, and yet the β€œAI” has captioned the video β€œThis video shows a player in a curling match requesting more ice.”

Simply don’t understand why we’ve accepted this.

GisΓ¨le Pelicot calls on victims to β€˜never have shame’ in her first TV interview Pelicot says shame is β€˜a double sentence’ and describes shock of seeing herself like β€˜a rag doll’ in police footage

What an amazing woman.

Pelicot said: β€œShame sticks to you, it sticks to your skin. And that shame is a double sentence, it’s a suffering you inflict on yourself.”

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

When people look back on this period in 50+ (perhaps less) years time they will be aghast at how we wasted and used so much energy in a time of climate crisis.

1. You may have seen this image of Black men voting during Reconstruction, and assumed it is a depiction of voting after the passage of the 15th Amendment (which outlaws denying the right to vote based on race).

Agreed, although I will say one thing I’ve seen a bunch of recently is LLM-written tests that say β€œ// Test that BleepBloop bloops bleeps” and then do nothing of the sort β€” on two occasions not even exercising the code under test. (Not suggesting for a minute that you’d be guilty of that!)

Lots of nuance here. Definitely less effective than working through problems with someone with substantial experience in the area. Probably more effective than doing so with many. Working with another human costs another human, but also there are twice as many opportunities for humans to level up!
