Yup, always on the downwind side. We even see that in the Bay Area, where lenticular clouds frequently form above the Bay.

Married - not looking for dates. What I am currently working on: -preparing for a month in Japan -making a layout and customizing parts for a new custom Victorinox EDC knife for myself -familiarizing myself increasingly with Linux

More #lenticular #clouds at the #AlabamaHills.
A #lenticular #cloud.

The view from the visitor center in #LonePine, California. In the foreground, you see some of the #AlabamaHills, and in the background, you see a section of the Eastern #SierraNevada
Western horizon, after sunset. Wishing clear skies to everyone!
After having ditched #Adobe (>25 years of heavy #Photoshop usage), I have begun transitioning from #Windows and #Mac to #Linux. #Google is also on the chopping block. I've had it with all the intrusive crap, especially AI.

A bull #ElephantSeal at #DrakesBeach, CA.
A Bull elephant seal weighs between 2 and 4 tons or even a bit more. Not much can stop them when they are on the move. They move in bursts lasting from a few seconds to maybe 10 seconds. They reach a top speed of about 6 miles per hour, which is faster than most people can run on soft sand.
A bull #ElephantSeal moving at astonishing speed at the #rookery on #DrakesBeach, #PointReyes, CA, on January 22, 2026. The beach is closed, and the parking lot is fenced in with a thick, wooden fence that does not pose an obstacle to a large male, should he choose to lounge in the parking lot.
My post was meant as a refresher!
Does that bear also like cocaine?
"Climb up the tree!"
*guy follows the advice and climbs the tree*
"Bears don't climb trees!"
"Of course they do!"
*guy in tree freaks out*
*bear climbs the tree and eats the guy*
It beats the alternative.
The #ruins of a building in the woods along #SwantonRoad. The building is one of many that burned down in the 2019 #wildfires.
#StageRoad in the #mist, CA
If you ever drive in California on #Highway1 between Davenport and Half Moon Bay, explore the side roads, such as #SwantonRoad, #CanyonRoad, and #StageRoad. They are really nice driving roads with interesting sights and scenery.
I shot this #sunset at the coast above #StinsonBeach with a 60-year-old Nikon 55mm f/1.2 lens on a digital microFourThirds camera. This lens offers unique rendering.
Sometimes I shoot 35 mm film with one of my #Nikon bodies. Here I have the #55mm #f/1.2 lens on a #NikonF. I used that lens in the shot one post up. Wide open, it's a very soft lens, especially on a digital camera, but it has very nice rendering and stopped down to f/2, it gets pretty sharp.
Crisp!
Those pigeons are huge! They are the size of a small goose.
The same location as in the previous image, #PillarPoint Harbor. An #egret is patiently waiting for a convenient meal.
