Going to archive these days, here are my top things to take with me: huge power bank for camera and laptop, flashlights (one for the forehead and one for books), extra warm socks and heating pads, termos with tea.
βοΈAsk people if working hours change and come early to work while there is daylight.

Those working in archives know that usually these places are already cold, and harsh winter and destroyed infrastrutture add up another layer!
However, preserving history and researching my country even with such difficulties give me purpose. I will keep doing regardless russian efforts to kill us.

I planned a field trip to Kyiv a few months ago, and here I am: during the coldest weeks with almost no electricity, no warm water and heating collapse around the capital.
russia deliberately targets energy systems of #Kyiv and chooses the coldest nights to terror people!

Connecting the Holodomor and Soviet crimes to the Russian war against Ukraine, I will spend my Sunday with Local History magazine piece on Bread (2023) which I brought from war-torn Kyiv to my new home in Switzerland.

If you learned about it in school or heard a lot about it, I suggest chapter 14, The Cover-Up, which I marked on every page. It showed me the Holodomor from outside Ukraine and how it was even possible in the world. Obviously political context of the last century gave me flashbacks to todayβs time.

If you know little to nothing about Holodomor, I can suggest you reading Red Femine of @anneapplebaum.bsky.social who gives amazing historical context and describes all the atrocities committed by Soviet government.

Yesterday we lit a candle to commemorate all victims of Holodomors. As a Ukrainian I have this candle in a glass filled with grain as my everyday reminder. This candle is lit once a year for those who survived the famines, those who died, and those who were never born.

While looking for female interviewees who were young adults in 60s-80s in my hometown Zhytomyr, I was desperate and used Facebook! Who couldβve thought that people would be so active and supportive? 0 negativity, shares with comments like βinteresting topicβ and one woman found!

Ukrainian children have been living through a full-scale war for the 4th year now. For many of them, it's all they have ever known. But for those old enough to remember life before, the warmest memories revolve around better times.
Help protect the kids:

Today is the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. On this day we all write the Radio Dictation of National Unity. Even after my recent surgery, I was not an exception today!
Itβs a privilege I can use Ukrainian language safely, unlike others in russian occupation and captivities

#nosafezones

Map of Ukraine with flight routes of russian Drones and Missiles indicating overwhelming attacks mainly on Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv and Charkiw
