I heard “what about news vouchers”. Replayed it 4 times assuming I misheard. What was said?

Cedar Hall in downtown Seattle always surprises me. Feels like UW library with numerous young people working remotely or whatever it is they’re doing. One day there was a popup petting zoo.

For PEETS sake!
Was hoping the choice of who swore the mayor into office would get media attention. THE TRANSIT FAIRY.
That’s amazing! In my lifetime. Seattle process must be improving.
What’s the point of surveying the opinions of people who won’t even be alive when projects are completed?
I’m adding this anecdote after seeing your post about today’s weather. Some years back I went to a DADU workshop led by CM Mike O’Brien in south Seattle. He was the only person who commuted to & from there by bike despite icy rain. Respect!
I’m looking forward to seeing meaningful action to save Little Saigon.
I have no idea what qualifies someone as a true progressive but maybe the term urbanist is easier. I thought redrawing the Pike Place Historical District to save the Showbox was a bad precedent. I agree with you about that old non-significant building.
I remember that well. I have great admiration for his ability to be a happy warrior under conditions that would drive me bonkers. I was involved in DADU reform process and was in City Hall for debates and votes. Herbold tried to neuter the legislation. Sawant went to a rally and didn’t vote.
I’m very excited about this. I’d like to start a list of things to do in Federal Way for people who may not know. Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden & Pacific Bonsai Museum are world class. Great Korean restaurants in Federal Way.
Councilmember Mike O’Brien was definitely progressive. Made DADU reform happen almost single-handedly. Mayor McGinn was committed to alternatives to cars. The label “progressive” was rarely used. Nowadays there’s no clarity as to what it actually means.
Fortunately new trees can be planted within available space. Perhaps the focus should be on the new landscaping thats part of the project. It’s always painted as creating a treeless wasteland.
Is it too late to ask? Doesn’t his term end December 31?
Amazing post from an Issaquah councilmember who is winning her race for a full four year term with 77.8% of the vote.
I was recently at a gallery show opening. One of the artists told me “anyone can make art. You just need to be brave”. My most brilliant successful artist teacher at Pratt Institute said same thing and mentioned a guy who paints with a brush up his ass. Not sure if he’s on the list.
Where would someone like Yoko Ono fit into this scheme?
It’s incredibly easy to become a mediocre artist making ‘art’ nobody wants to buy. You don’t need a degree. Anyone can do it. It’s a cool lifestyle if you can get a private or public subsidy (sugar daddy). I have a BFA from Pratt Institute and a very broad definition of ‘art’.
44 hotel units! Oh my! I live near there. Just a short walk to Rapidride C and Water Taxi shuttle bus. Both of which can get you downtown. C connects to 560 bus at Westwood Village to/from SeaTac Airport.
Older Seattle people aren’t necessarily more conservative. I’d say most older Seattle voters were ‘progressive’ in their youth. They are likely nostalgic and fearful about the future. And you who believe yourself to be progressive will one day be like them.
I think they should electrify the fence and place signage memorializing those who died. They have memorial signage on the Oregon coast telling exactly what happened to people who defied the dangers of the surf.
Connect Spokane, WA to Seattle/Bellevue via bullet train and it’ll become a real city. Yakima too. I grew up in NYC and feel these places have so much potential.
I’m sympathetic to families that have lost loved ones. But we give out driver’s licenses like candy to 16 year olds. I assume teen injuries and deaths related to driving far outnumber other causes. Teens doing dangerous things is part of the human condition.
I don’t know anyone who didn’t bother to vote but apparently that’s like 3 out of 4 registered voters. Apparently who shows up matters.
Jiffy Lube branches out in reaction to customer survey results. Factoria, WA
Ketchup contains lycopene. Eat more ketchup! Ketchup is the secret of my wellness regimen.
I don’t disagree but is there real world bus & light rail boarding etiquette in Seattle? I’ve seen incredible lack of awareness.
The urge to micromanage housing policy is shameless to the point of being obscene. As if they are even slightly capable of visualizing the future.
It’s an f-ing miracle.
Weird & awkward.
